I can’t believe how many people keep their dogs unleashed in local parks where the signs clearly say “all pets must be leashed.” No it’s not cute when your unleashed dog knocks over my toddler “to say hello.”

When I see an unleashed dog coming at me, or my child, I kick it. Yes, even if the dog is on a leash and comes up to sniff my crotch, he gets kicked also. I do not trust the dog or the stranger walking it

yeah, that wouldn't set a good example for my kid. i don't want her to be cruel to animals. but people should keep their pets leashed unless it's allowed like in a dog park.

You definitely do need to teach your children how to protect themselves from animals.

Getting mauled can change your life forever.

I agree with this, but there really isn't much a small child can do when a large dog attacks.

True. Responsible adults need to protect small children. I never allow kids to pet unknown animals.

+1 I love dogs but what happened to that passenger is beyond horrendous. I can't believe the airlines are so permissive re strangers and dogs that close to each other.

The dogs sit on peoples laps? Wow.

I realize that size prevents it being an option for most dogs, but ones that can fit in a carrier should be in one and — at the very least — dogs should be muzzled and harnessed. I don’t care if “he wouldn’t hurt a fly.” I wouldn’t plunk my cat down next to a person and expect them to be happy. Why do people expect it with dogs?

Why didn't you just pay the fee to bring a small animal with you in the cabin? Your cat doesn't have to be a "support pet."

That’s disturbing! I had to stop reading the article.

They said chocolate lab/pointer mix

That is what the dog owner said, but if you look at the actual pictures of the dog, it looks like a pit bull to me.

Which airlines don’t allow animals on the loose?

Agree. Hard to see the snout but the ears look like pitbull ears. Not lab nor pointer ears

We do that, too. It's outrageous that people seriously think it's fine to let their animal come up to us.

It's not good for the humans, and many pet owners need to stop pretending like it's good for the dog and that Fido really just loves to travel. Unless it is a trains, certified service animal for a legit and documented medical need, this 'emotional service dog' crap needs to end. On planes, and everywhere.

Yep, and even if Fido actually really loved it, who cares.

It's yet another example where being excessively liberal / "compassionate" to one segment of the population negatively affects the other(s).

At the time, all animals traveling to/from the uk had to fly in the hold, but it was an American airline and honored the request. So I did pay a fee ($250?). It wasn’t about being cheap. When we moved there several years before, she was in good health and flew in the hold as required.

I was under the impression that people would be pissed about any animal in the cabin (other than a legit service dog) whether it was a “support pet” or not.

She didn’t leave the carrier on the flight, and my family had the whole row — people were spared my cat and my child.

My DH just said the same thing recently!

A few years ago my then toddler son and I were in HD. A leashes dog came up to him and at the time he was scared of dogs. He crawled up my legs in order to get away from the dog. I posted in DCUM about it and was told that I needed to train my son to get over his fear of dogs. My argument was that my human child should be able to go into a retail store and not have to worry about encountering animals.
