She does?!? She freaking lives in the Taylor district, which I think of as the third wealthiest elementary behind Jamestown and Discovery. Yet another “do as I say, not as I do” person. No thank you. |
Look, we’re getting distracted talking about Parisi’s hypocrisy. The message has to be whether feel safe. That’s what the campaign is pushing.
If voters are thinking about safety, they’ll support Theo. You want them to be thinking about what happens if thugs start coming into their neighborhood. By emphasizing safety, voters will make the leap that the Latin Parisi will open the floodgates. That Eberhardt book gets at the dynamic. If you tell people that it’s the blacks and Latinos getting arrested, they’re cool with that. That’s a reasonable cost to keep people safe. But if they find out that people who look like them are getting caught, then they start considering a Parisi because now it could be their kid getting pinched. I hope Parisi keeps talking about the racial stuff. That just tells voters that Theo does what she needs to do. Theo should keep being offended at the suggestion, as a Trump approach won’t work in the People’s Republic of Arlington. But if she just brushes Parisi off, and keeps asking whether you feel safe (hint—you do), then voters will do the right thing and re-elect someone who doesn’t let anything get in the way of keeping us safe. |

“Commonwealth’s Attorney candidate Parisa Dehghani-Tafti raised $604,682 between April 1 and May 30, in large part due to one political action committee (PAC), according to new campaign finance filings. The Justice and Public Safety PAC, which is funded by billionaire philanthropist George Soros, previously donated to Tafti’s campaign and paid for her social media videos. In the latest filing period it made a total of $515,492.28 in donations, including $190,000 in cash and $325,492.28 in in-kind contributions.” I find that absolutely disgusting. How are people not furious about a half MILLION outside dollars trying to buy a local election? |
Half a million to buy an election. And since the candidate is weak, they opted to run a disinformation campaign in order to win. Disgusting |
I agree. George Soros is a pig. |
One might say the current CA Stamos is weak as she has a one-sided view and has not been challenged. The current Stamos has only been a prosecutor and has been in this office since 1987, this is the first time she is facing a real challenge. She has not had to look as how she runs the office and has little concern for best practices-competition can be good. Additionally, some of her tactics are clearly not best practices-discovery process issues and ability to get bail. The below article should be concerning to VA residents it shows problem with evidence and that she has a pattern of treating children harshly- the Arl school board agrees and they have endorsed Parisa. https://theappeal.org/virginia-teen-was-detained-and-prosecuted-for-saying-oink-oink-to-cop/ As for the amount of $ spent it is incredibly hard to unseat an incumbent but Arlington may be in need of a change. We are talking about 2 D’s here in this case. |
The “do you feel safe?” question Theo poses has some added texture. When you ask that, voters start to imagine who might make them feel threatened. On average that’s going to be blacks and Latinos. Ergo, if you lock them up they can’t threaten you and you “feel safe”. That’s where Parisa’s emphasis on the racial disparities may backfire. Jennifer Eberhardt’s book “Biased” discusses how experiments show people support heavy sentencing if they think it’s the blacks who get locked up. They don’t see whites as threatening, so if they find out whites are going to jail then they want sentencing alternatives and diversion programs. To the extent voters identify “children” as white, or at least not so black, then Theo’s harsh practices are more damaging to her electoral chances. It probably comes down to Vihstadt and Garvey mobilizing their vote on Theo’s behalf. The Patrick Hope/Frank O’Leary crowd isn’t enough. Theo wins a general election, and she probably regrets not having bitten the bullet and gone all the way independent. Some Libby Democrats will defect to Parisa, and with much of the Vihstadt base sitting out a Democrat primary, I think it’s going to be tough for Theo. |
I don't think you realize how much you are hurting your own cause with comments like that. |
I voted against the Soros backed Fairfax County attorney. This county is already lenient about crime we don't need "equitable" prosecution that isn't really equitable to the crime victims and community.
Good luck Arlington on overcoming a concerted social media campaign. No |
Exactly. Arlingtonians want to ruin Arlington. I wish I'd bought somewhere else... If I can get a different job I'm moving to Loudoun. |
Yes, it bothers me. Sadly, I think the Soros media campaign will be successful and Arlington will go further downhill. |
This. |
