DD always poops in restaurants

Anonymous
My DD does the same thing and she is now 15. Here’s what I found that seems to work:
The squatty potty helps her go better at home so she is less likely to need to go.
We realized that there was some correlation with dairy food - not any dairy but high fat, dairy rich foods like queso dip, ice cream, etc. really triggered her to go poop. We now give her a lactose digesting supplement when we are going out for that type of foods.

Maybe she is bulimic and only claims she is pooping.

My son, too! He's 16 and has done this from the time he was in diapers. It's so strange, but we don't make a big deal of it.

Bulimics would not go before the food arrives, and are typically VERY private.

My son has a good friend who does this. Every time we go to a restaurant he disappears to poop. His mom said he's done it for as long as she can remember.

No lie, but it’s TJ Maxx for me.

This post shows a few things.

1. The range of normal is broad

2. Because we don’t talk about poop behavior, we all think our experience is the gold standard.

3. There isn’t much to do about your own body’s normal.

If OP’s daughter wants, she could try a snack before heading out. I know I NEVER drink my first cup of coffeee outside the house unless I will be somewhere I can poop almost immediately. Alas, no caffeine during my commute.

My kid has to poop two minutes after she jumps into a swimming pool. Every. Single. Time. If we are heading to the beach, we actually make her take a cold bath first, however unpleasant, because it's often just not feasible to take her to the bathroom at the beach right after we get there. (Alas, it only happens with cold water.)

For me its the grocery store! Worst place to poop. Bathrooms tend to be gross.

Hmm. Could she psychologically need a break from the overstimulation at restaurants? And this is her way of taking one?

My DD gets up from dinner about 3 times a meal. She feels like she has to go to the bathroom but doesn't really. Ugh, kids and their anxieties.

When she was younger, this meant I had to eat many expensive meals cold after spending 15 minutes waiting for her in the bathroom. She still does it now quite often and I find it mystifying. Sometimes we advise her to go before the food arrives but she says she doesn’t need to. FYI she has a very healthy appetite, is very tall and skinny and eats a healthy varied diet. Can anyone explain this to me?

This is my DD. Now she is 13 and can go on her own, but it has been a annoyance since she was a toddler. Would like to understand why as well!

This is such an interesting thread! It really does show how much we don't know since we don't typically talk about it. I feel like a psychology grad student should be taking notes.

Ok so weirdly enough if I'm in a pool all day I inevitably have to poop after 1-2 hours and it comes on fast! I always thought maybe it's bc of the bouyancy or something! Hahaha. I grew up competitive swimming mostly year round (we didn't have private pool team like in Nova) and I'd poo maybe every other day sometime during practice. Never fail. So weird!
