Rhee alleged to be involved in cover-up of fiance's sexual misconduct

“It is outrageous that the schools chancellor was aware of repeated charges of sexual misconduct involving an executive of an organization on whose board she sat, yet apparently did nothing to assist the alleged victims in those cases. Indeed, the fact that she is now engaged to the alleged perpetrator is surreal.”

So much for waiting for an explanation . . .

Rhee actively sought out information about at least one of the cases of sexual misconduct. There are no documented actions by Rhee on behalf of the alleged victim. Are you suggesting that needs no explanation?

Of course, when Rhee learned that her future fiance had spent the night in another woman's apartment, her interest may have been personal rather than professional. That of course would raise an entirely different set of questions.

No, I'm suggesting that while your initial posts called for an explanation from Rhee, your subsequent one shows that you've reached a judgment about her conduct in this matter without waiting for that explanation.

Don't want to get into the fight about whether Rhee should speak publicly on this but if Johnson and she were involved when this happened, she should have recused herself from the situation and let someone else investigate.

Depends on the timing. Were they an item when the alleged incidents occurred?

Has anyone else wondered why it is of all of the school districts in the entire country -- DC can't find anyone who can fix the problem of the public schools here? They had a general and several other supposed saviours and now this Rhee who has managed to make enemies of everyone. Should they just close all of the schools and start over?

Personally, I think Janey was making progress and should have been kept on. Maybe the problem is that the politicians keep changing who's in charge so they never stay long enough to have an effect.

17:49 Absolutely. And they had to pay him a year's salary to leave before his contract was up. What a waste. Fenty treated him like dirt. I hope Fenty is not reelected.

Like many other "school districts in the entire country," especially urban school districts, there is no one person who can "fix the problem of public schools" because public schools are not a problem, they are a manifestation of all the problems in our community, including but not limited to attitudes toward education, poverty, poor health, bad eyesight, substance abuse, child abuse and neglect, juvenile crime, etc.

Disagree with your oversimplification pp. NYC had a guy come in and do a great job to fix the schools as have some other large cities. DC is hopeless.

Curious why you would chastise the PP for an oversimplification (which it was) but then throw one down of your own. At least the PP was willing to elaborate a little. Are you?

So you think Joel Klein has fixed NYC schools? Please define "fixed" with respect to NYC schools.

Take a look at this article about public school reform in NYC by New York Times correspondent James Traub.
