Bancroft

I think Macfarland/Roosevelt is more likely since all other DCPS immersion schools other than Oyster feed there.

OP asked for feedback on Bancroft and children’s experience there.

It would be helpful if some posters with experience could share that.

There are plenty of opportunities elsewhere for rehashing the old recurring debates about changing feeder patterns or one’s personal opinion about what professional families living in the neighborhood should be allowed to do.

So many that they are adding another class for those grades. What this means is that the school, with the new building as a major pull, is now gentrifying fast. It will be a completely different place a couple years from now, not Title 1, more like an Oyster that people are clamoring to get into. OP you need not worry about extracurriculars, those will only expand as the school becomes richer. As someone who has older kids, my feelings are mixed about all this.

Do you honestly believe that DCPS will allow Bancroft to become a non-Title I school? Bancroft and Marie Reed are both schools that are Title I by design. Yes affluent families are arriving at both schools, but DCPS is assisting both school with the implementation of certain things to ensure that the share of disadvantaged children never drops below 45%.

what happened to the other thread that got so nasty about latino and black families and how much they hate gentrifiers at Marie Reed and are starting their own PTO? Did Jeff lock it?

Apparently, a good percentage of that thread was a sock puppet (see the Website Feedback section). You could sort of tell from the word choice and style of the posts that it was the same person replying to themselves.

Can any parents give any feedback?

When the Deal feed is removed and Bancroft feeds to CHEC or Cardozo this affluent family influx might slow down.

+1. I was thinking the same. Parents will bail then.

It'll be MacFarland as a choice for many as Petworth is very gentrified. Parents have to go somewhere and everyone is not going to move.

We are high up on the list for 4th grade. If my child gets in, is there space in their aftercare program? Will he need to take an assessment test if coming from another DL program?

Anyone know if Deal has advanced Spanish classes for those coming in from Bancroft or just for those that are beyond Spanish 1?

Macfarland needs the Adams kids to be successful.

No it won’t. We are at a feeder now and the UMC parents still leave in droves by 1st grade. It will be a decade before a solid cohort of high acieving students will be coming from all the feeders into macfarland. If they don’t offer academic tracking then it’s a no go for UMC parents.

Who exactly is pushing? How is this manifesting?

At this point, Bancroft has an optional, programmatic feed to MacFarland.

Perhaps that's the case for your feeder school, but for ours, many families are staying past 1st grade. Many UMC families are in the upper grades, but there are a few that are leaving for Basis and Latin for 5th.

As the poster previously stated, folks have to go somewhere and there isn't enough space across the city for all these UMC families in Petworth.

I would call Deal directly instead of relying on this board.

They have the Spanish Humanities classes for bilingual kids, but they are not referred to on this page
