Do you have a dishwasher? You should be quickly rinsing and loading as you go, maybe even as the kids are finishing their meal and you have a minute. Run it at night and DH should unload it in the morning before he leaves.
Do you do separate laundry loads for the kids or mix together? When your youngest is a little older and can eat better, washing all the family clothes together should help a lot. On weekends it’s eady to strip th to beds or grab the towels and run a lot first thing in the morning. Switch to dryer after you back from playground or shopping or whatever. Always fold during nap time or night time. I always allow myself tv time as I fold. |
Tidy up every night. Make beds in morning. One toy in/one toy out rule. Cleaner once a week.
|
Buy less.
Less clutter. |
Then throw their crap out. Bag up their clothes and leave them with two outfits. They don't clean because you don't make them. Make them. |
Damn. Laundry once a week? Does it take all day? |
Maybe take their toys and see if that changes? |
If my kid ever had a 2 hour tantrum I'd be taking some drastic measures. How does anyone think that's normal? We'd be seeing peds, taking parenting classes, extremely firm bed times and setting boundaries. |
i'm a SAHM...I'm in the minority it seems, but i do not make my kids pick up everything they play with every single time they play with something. We're home a lot so it seems like that would mean I would spend a lot of the day making them pick up stuff and a lot of battles would ensue.
they have a playroom and all toys stay in there, and we make them help tidy the playroom once a week and we try to make it fun e.g., put songs on, dance, etc. I sweep the kitchen floor and wipe down the tables and counters after lunch. My husband does it after dinner because I cook. Dishes go in dishwasher after each meal, the dishwasher is ran at night and emptied in morning, repeat. Laundry day is once per week, on Fridays. I do mine and the kids' laundry and sheets/towels. I vacuum the downstairs twice a week, I vacuum the upstairs maybe once every other week. I'm constantly decluttering, throwing things away, giving stuff to Goodwill, selling stuff on FB marketplace, etc. Cleaners come once a month to do bathrooms, floors, etc. If company is coming in between the cleaners coming, i will do these things myself. I have 3 young kids, I let a lot of stuff go. I figure the house will be cleaner when they are older. I can't imagine spending 2 hours deep cleaning every night. I'm exhausted and up all night with a 5 month old, that's NOT happening lol. |
I agree with this. And also, less stuff. When I notice that my boys spend more time cleaning/making a mess than playing then I put away 1/2 the toys. I still find that there is a mess everywhere, though. However, I have really high standards. We've added in a cleaning lady 1x a month to do mopping and bathroom floors and all that stuff. |
1. Playroom upstairs, where 95% of the toys go.
2. Clean the dishes (aka load and unload the dishwasher) as you go. 3. Cleaning service. 4. Buy less stuff. |
For those of you who only do laundry once a week - do you work out? Do your kids do sports? How many kids do you have? We only have two but they have some activity after school every day so each day's laundry consists of at least a pair of pajamas for each of them, their school outfit (they have a strict dress code so they can't wear play clothes to school, plus the sports they do can't be done in play clothes, they have specific uniforms/outfits), their sports outfit. Then for my husband and I it's our work clothes (some of which will be reworn or dry cleaned but at least our underwear and his socks), out workout clothes, and then whatever we wore to bed. When you add in bathroom towels plus bed sheets, if I only did laundry once a week I'd spend all day doing it. |
I do laundry once a week and that is once a week change for towels, sheets, PJs etc. We wear the same PJs during the week but do change out if they get dirty same for towels and sheets. We have enough work and school clothes (no uniform) to get thru the week without doing laundry. I rewear pants/jeans/tights during the week. I workout 3-4 times a week and have 3 sets of outfits. One of my workouts is non-sweaty so I rewear the workout pants. DS does sports twice a week and laundry day cleans those for the next week. Bottom line is I don't change out often for certain things and we have enough clothes to get thru the week. |
Have you tried parenting? |
Am I the only person in the world who doesn't fold laundry? If it creases, I iron it and put on a hanger. But the vast majority gets stuffed in drawers. I'm the antithesis of Marie Kondo! ![]() |
No, I fold everything or put in on hangers. |
