what do you like the most in your life and is it what you spend money on?

Me too! I don’t spend nearly as much as I could because I love having enough money saved to know that I could walk away from my job at any time and be ok until I find the next one. The ultimate goal is to have enough F you money to not even need the next job. Oddly enough, I like my job and working, it’s just appealing to have the option to leave.

I like spending time with my family... so I guess I "spend" my money on not earning money for a few years until the kids start school.

We spend most of our discretionary money on food, but it’s not what brings me happiness. I’d rather spend money on travel, and home improvements/design. Of course those things are more expensive and not necessary, so they don’t get much attention.

Massage! And not the kind that Robert Kraft likes.

I like my family. The mortgage is the biggest single line item in our budget but the biggest hidden expense is having my wife homeschool our kids. Kind of the same, I guess.

I found the conversation useful but also kind of Like obviously some of the things I enjoy most are what I also spend money on - our home, traveling, eating out/visiting with friends, our pets, books, new clothes. Others are just things I need - like student loan payments, gas for the car, allergy medicine (though I suppose breathing is one of the things I most enjoy).

Anyway, I was curious how you find that exercise. Folks on Reddit said that listing out what makes them happy helped them save money, by realizing they were frittering away $$ on things they didn't love that much. (It's a sort of Marie Kondo approach to spending, I suppose?)

I think when you spend future money on what you enjoy most in life, it can get hard to remind yourself that the loan payments are still a great expenditure.

Travel (one "big" 3 week trip annually), books (I really need to start using the library with my Kindle), and yoga at the studio.

When DH and I were younger eating out was up there, but now it is less than once/month. So maybe that was one of those things I didn't "love" and cut out of my life?

Travel, reading, and cooking. We already took one trip this year (10 days) and 2 more week long trips scheduled. I have a kindle with kindle unlimited and a separate budget of $20/month on books (I finish a book every 5ish days due to a 45min/way commute). Cooking wise we get Hello Fresh and once a quarter DH and I have a date night at Cookology (or similar).

I love me some crazy workouts, so my solidcore habit is dollars well-spent! It's a lot, but I get so much pleasure out of them.

My kids are grown, but I enjoyed that whole time and I still enjoy them as adults.
But now, and even then, dogs were right up there, and, you guessed it- it is where a lot of miney goes.
