Question about timing. My U10 girl plays in Classic and I think is good enough for a good travel team but we've wanted to keep her in something low key. I'm sure this spring she will be lobbying to do travel tryouts (for Fall, 2019).
There's a lot of talk on this board about attending practices before tryouts. I'm wondering--when (what month) is it 'too late' to start making a concerted effort to join a travel team for next fall? I'd like her to continue with the Classic team this spring and am hoping that if it looks like the team is staying together, she'll want to do it another year. But also don't want to be left behind by acting too late. |
There is no real time frame for that. As a practical matter it is best to wait a bit until teams are practicing outside but there is no reason not to start reaching out to coaches now. |
| BSC has a tendency to place new players on B or C, so if you think your kid has any realistic chance for A, push for practice with the highest team. Easy to get moved down. |

| We are seeing a number of girls from outside the club attending Blue team practices. I agree with PP that you should start reaching out to clubs now to schedule practices in late Feb or March, as most teams are outside by that time. Also agree with other PP to try to attend a practice with top team of whatever club you are looking at. The coaches would prefer this as well, as it lets them compare apples to apples. If your kid is not of a caliber of the other top team players, then they will be invited to join the second or third team for next season. |
Thanks to all of you! |
