Who do you list as your local emergency contact?

My parents, my BFF and my sister.

In the instances where you have been called as an emergency contact (or someone was called as an emergency contact for your child), why weren’t they able to get in touch with you? I’m not asking judgmentally. I’m trying to problem solve ahead of time so that this doesn’t come up. I don’t want to carry my personal phone into all of my meetings at work, but I can. (We don’t have a receptionist or anyone who could be called in an emergency.) Would that have solved the problem? Or were you flying/ down in the metro/ something else I’m not thinking of?

I carry my phone with me at all times. This isn't hard. my emergency contact is for when I am unreachable/incapacitated, not because I don't want to carry my phone with me

Not everyone can. There are a good number of people in this area who work in secured enviroments and are not allowed to have cell phones on them or even in their office. Heck, try wearing a Fitbit or Apple watch in some areas, not going to happen. Honestly, it is easier for me to check my email then it is for me to check my phone. And yes, I list that on my emergency contact information but I doubt that a Principal is going to email me when they can’t get me on my cell phone.

I'm responding to OP who said she could. I would be annoyed if as my friend's emergency contact, I had to leave work to pick up her child, just because she wasn't reachable when she could be. I know there are plenty of people who cannot, but OP is not one of them.

My partner is out of town often, and our families are about an hour away. I have a friend/neighbor that is our emergency contact back up. She is a single parent and while I hope she never has to be called in to help, she was open to being 2nd in our list. I’m her child’s emergency contact as well.

We all work and her not having car seat would be an ish, but we’d figure it out.

I have a couple of single, childfree friends who work closer to her daycare or work more flexible hours but they don’t have a car seat in their cars for if they needed to pick her up, and honestly, even though they know her and spend time with her, they wouldn’t be the most comfortable caring for a young toddler in a medical emergency. That’s just out of their zone. I don’t have local family, and I’m a single mom. Ideas?

You didn't think about these things prior to choosing to have a baby without a partner?
