I'm the one who reignited this thread. I thought Matthew Goode worked well in the costumes for Matthew Roydon. Neck ruffs, who knew?
But overall, I get why these types of books didn't used to be made into visual format. Characters like Gallowglass and Fernando came across as particularly hollow, with no effort to flesh out their backstories. Poor Gallowglass has now been hanging around watching Diana her whole life and he's expected not to fall in love with her? The ensemble cast romances were very flat. Marcus and his lady were okay, but not really compelling, neither was Miriam's. It was obvious that it would happen, but Matthew and Diana suck the life and attention out of the show. The whole thread with Satu was a waste... And the whole vampire baby... I will say, I did appreciate that Diana was allowed to look comfortable at home. There's a scene where Matthew scoops her up while she's wearing thick, slouchy socks... that's real life, right there! Thank you all for letting me get a few comments in! |
I liked the first season, and it went downhill from there for me into Mary-Sue cheesy territory. But I stuck it out as a mindless, fun watch. |

I like the first book. Struggled through the 2nd book hoping it would get better.
Was Excited about watching the show since I love Mathew Goode. So boring. The female lead had the charisma of a cardboard box. Watched a couple episodes before I bailed. |
Bumping this thread because I'm hate watching this horrible show for free on Comcast streaming. I also hate-read the books and kept drinking too much red wine because I am suggestible like that. The worst worst worst is the Diana character acting. I don't even want to look up her name because she's so terrible. I don't even know how Matthew Goode, who is a good actor, can stand across from her with a serious face. |
| The first was was hot! Beautiful cinematography and Mathew Goode is OMG. Unfortunately I found the other 2 less steaming. |
I watched it when it came out and agree. she is awful. |
