DC versus MD versus VA public school

So funny to hear MoCo people think it is terrible and Fairfax think it is better. Few people can really compare overall.

SAT scores don't reflect how good a school is. Just FYI.

DP. JKLM are good schools. If you can afford to pay the price for entry, the elementary schools are excellent, among the best in the country. Then go private for middle and high school.

Lafayette is ranked 8,936
Murch is ranked 9,592
Janney is ranked 9,709

Definitely not among the best in the country.

MCPS needs to stop hiding the ball. Is it really that ashamed?

OP: if you have a gifted kid, post this in aap forum. The three systems handle GT differently.

Otherwise, outside the special magnets, FCPS and MCPS are on par. But my impression is that FCPS moderate liberal and MCPS is progressive liberal. MCPS deals a lot in language immersion, IB, the achievement gap, closing school for non-Christian holidays. Etc. I don’t think its good or bad, peruse, but it’s a different mindset.

Also, MCPS seems more focused on achievement gap and GE. FCPS seems to focus more on AAP/ gifted/ college bound education.

Mcps is diverging down fast from merit-based AAP or TJ.

Now it G&T programs are only for students who pass a low 95% cogat bar who “don’t have a critical mass of equally smart students at their home school.” Basically central office socially engineers who it admits now, and wants more Hispanics and AAs, less Asians.

Previous G&T elementary school programs that typically sent 20 kids to the magnet middle school, now get 3-4 admits. Then they turned around and at the last minute said they’ll try to “enrich” a couple of the homeschools classes that have a ton of 95-99% cogat’ers.

Mcps, enjoy.
