DC wants to transfer to UDC

Although UDC may be improving, it's hard to imagine a degree from there could stand up to a degree from a DC private. Then again, this is traditional thinking and maybe it's good to have an open mind.

PP here with a senior at UDC who has been accepted at a number of med schools.

For med school, UDC is as good as a DC private and maybe somewhat better. Med schools will give a slight positive consideration to students who have gone to the very top universities. That would not include the DC privates.

Apart from that, there can actually be an advantage to applying for med school out of UDC. There are few that do so, while med schools like to have matriculants from the largest possible number of undergraduate universities. In addition, some will give positive consideration to students coming from "urban" schools like UDC.

However, if the student is not truly committed to pursuing med school, he would end with a Biology degree from UDC that may not be valued as highly in the market as the same degree from a DC private.

In short, for a student in the position of OP's DS, UDC would be a great way to go if she is sure he is totally committed to the med school path. Otherwise, he should carefully consider before transferring.
