Where does Science and Social Studies fall in the curriculum? From which company is MCPS choosing for those topics? There is talk of ELA, but I assume that covers just reading/writing topics.

Benchmark Advance is the recommendation for the elementary ELA curriculum.

$14 million dollars over 3 years. Teachers, is it a good curriculum? (Granted, it couldn't be worse than the Pearson crap I see coming home currently.)

Benchmark does well in some areas, but not all.
Luckily the rest of the curriculum choices are rated well, at least according to Ed Reports. I am concerned about Benchmark, though.

I heard something about MCPS redoing its science curriculum, but nothing specific. I haven't heard a thing about social studies. I remain very concerned that these subjects are receiving too little attention.

What curriculum is used for kids in the new AIM enriched math path? Is it something developed by MCPS or something they purchased from an outside company?

Developed by MCPS, loosely based on the math classes at Takoma Park/Clemente.

I can’t believe they went with one that was not recommended by Ed Reports. So disappointing.

Teacher here. I'm much more concerned about Eureka math for elementary than Benchmark for reading. I have friends who were on the panel who reviewed the materials. Rumor has it that Eureka Math didn't get rave reviews from the teachers who reviewed the materials. Not sure how that slid past everyone.

Hmm. According to this Powerpoint, Eureka Math had the "Highest Rating By Elementary Core Team," "Highest Rating in Interviews," and "High Rating in Vendor Presentations."

Well I'm staying hopeful just disconcerting to hear bad reviews from the teachers I personally know who reviewed math curriculums.
