Holton or Potomac are the best academic schools that also have good sports teams.

As well as GDS and NCS

GDS is not as strong academically as Holton, NCS, or Potomac. And to say it's athletic is hilarious. Really. It's a great school, with very very liberal kids--but not strong athletes. I even know of several girls who left there for another school because of how bad the athletics are.

Although it usually attracts a handful of talented athletes, it isn't what I would call a strong athletic school. The record for varsity teams last year - soccer 4-7, field hockey 5-8, tennis 9-5, volleyball 10-8, basketball 9-10 (Tom is a great coach though), lacrosse 10-8, softball 12-3. But, it might be a good fit if you're looking for a school that offers a variety of sports and encourages everyone to participate.

Softball won dc state championship agains and crew came in first place and tennis won DC state championship

Don’t be fooled looking at records. There is a world of difference between the AA division and the A division. There are not many schools, if any, that has all their teams in AA.

I’m not sure DC state championship is much to crow about

Hi troll!

GDS is as strong academically as NCS and stronger than either Holton or Potomac - just look at the college matriculations.
GDS girls soccer just finished this fall ranked in the All-Mets top 10, lost 2-1 in the DC state championship and 2nd in the ISL AA division. Girls volleyball made semifinals of state tournament. At the ISL Cross Country championships, girls varsity finished 3rd/15 and JV finished 1st/8.

Seriously?!? GDS is much stronger academically than Potomac or Holton. It is as rigorous as Sidwell and NCS/STA.

Visi has all its teams in ISL AA. Perennial Lewis Cup winner.

SR is a great school, but a step down from Visitation and St. Johns for athletics. Visitation has won the ISL Lewis Cup 9 of the last 10 years. Visi also has higher average SAT's than SR (per the college counseling school profiles on the their websites).

SR a step down from Visi....please.

Athletically SR is a step down -- no debate there.

+1 Visi won the ISL AA titles in basketball and lacrosse in the spring and field hockey this fall (plus 2d in soccer). What AA titles did SR win the last two seasons?

GDS is not the equal of Sidwell, STA or NCS. It is equal to Potomac and Holton however. And the later three are only a little bit less intense than the first three.

NCS has the best academics by far and also does very well in athletics.

NCS is slightly better academically but no where near as good athletically. I mean come on. Most sports stink at NCS. They tend to have only one standout athlete per grade. None of the teams in any sport do anything beyond playing in the ISL and a top girl athlete who is smart enough to go to NCS is giving up playing on an outstanding high school team which few want to do.

My comment wasn’t about Landon boys being an issue just that if the goal is being connected to a boys school that’s not the focus at Holton. Much more interaction at NCS and St Albans. My daughter is an athlete and I was just answering the question I thought OP was asking about top academics and great athletics but also with connection to a boys school. Most multi-sport varsity athletes at Holton don’t have time to do plays given practice time and demands of school so that’s not a way they would interact with boys.

Who is the current Lewis Cup holder?
How many Olympic Bold Medals have come out of Visi?

Visi is certainly strong in soccer, basketball and lacrosse but they have neglected several of their programs and are just not competitive.
They will not have all their teams in AA next year..

It's the best crew program in the region. Won the top two prizes at Stotesbury the past three years in a row. That has had an impact on the entire program. A lot of girls who would be strong contributors in other sports choose instead to devote the year to rowing.
