Good PK-3 schools in DC?

Anonymous
I am also in bound for Noyes and none of the neighbor kids I know go to Noyes. Several neighbors who have been in Brookland for generations have told me to try to lottery for a different school in the neighborhood, like they did. I’ll be doing the lottery for the first time next year and I also want my kid to go to school with neighbors, but the neighbor kids really are all over the place. It doesn’t seem to be anything new. That said, I haven’t toured it yet, but I think Noyes will be fine for the pre-k years. I just wish more neighbors did go there!

Move. Seriously. The neighborhood was good enough for you but the school your neighbors attend isn’t good enough for your 3yo?

Move.

Jeez, just stop with this already. Half the kids in her neighborhood go somewhere other than Noyes. Also -- where should she move to? What neighborhood in DC is as affordable as where she is now but has better inbound schools?

OP, and earlier poster helpfully wrote the list below. I would tour Langley, Burroughs and Noyes and Friendship Armstrong if the location is doable for you, and consider adding at least one of the latter three as a safety.

Right and if all those kids went to Noyes it would be a good school. Instead we have a bunch of newcomers who love the more affordable real estate but not all of the neighborhoods warts and by going to school elsewhere make the neighborhood school worse and confirm why a lot of natives of the neighborhood resent gentrification. If Edgewood is good enough to live in it should be good enough to send your kids to school there.

There are good and bad things about Edgewood, and I don't regret living there. But if there was a housing lottery and I could get the same house in certain other neighborhoods I like better for the same price, I would enter every year.

Not according to https://www.dcpcsb.org/sela-pcs-student-location-map though certainly most families live fairly close by.

On the other hand, I always think spread out tells you families are willing to travel for the school.

Meaning, Sela must be offering some of those families something they like.
