Bravo. Well said.
Of course Washington Latin should be a model for DCPS. That was the whole rationale for charter schools, that they serve as models for regular public schools. Perhaps DCPS can start a Latin/Classical Program in Southeast. I predict it would be very popular. My experience as a DCPS educator is that students across the city are hungry for knowledge. |
or, why doesn't washington latin open a branch in SE? seems like a great opportunity for those parents who regularly send their kids to NW for a chance at a reasonable school.... |
I thought this was about Deal and Hardy!
My child goes to Deal and is learning and being challenged. The teachers at Deal are amazing. They take the time to know the students and make individual adjustmnets. I would say Deal is at the top of their game and would rival any private school. The energy in that place is hard to match. |
Quite right. Does Hardy offer Latin? |
Does Hardy offer Chinese?
Seems strange that kids at Eaton, a school which currently offers Chinese and is trying to become a "world cultures" school will NOT articulate to Deal which is an IB school and offers Chinese and instead will articulate to Hardy. Can anyone explain how Hardy will pick up on these aspects of Eaton students' development better than Deal? |
How much Chinese is actually being taught at Eaton? Isn't it just a FLES program that hasn't really been developed yet? We're not talking about Chinese Immersion here. |
It's incorporated into the school day, so it's not FLES. I also think it's more than once a week but not every day. Plus, the school has made efforts to put Chinese into other areas of the school day. Last year, the school play was Mulan and several of the characters had dual actors one of whom spoke in English and one in Chinese. Even in two years of a FLES-like program, a child can learn a significant amount of language, and if interested, it seems like that child ought to be able to continue on. |
Deal is a great option. They have their 1st Open House tomorrow from 9:30 - 2:23pm. |
