I need to find someone with experience related to that process.[/quote] I am the pp above who filed a state complaint when DS was in 2nd grade. It sounds like you are doing everything right, but the school is not accountable to you - not really. If you file a state complaint, the school will be accountable to their state board overseeing special education: They will HAVE to provide formal training for their staff, etc. What happened to your child was assault and the fact that the principal and special education teacher were not at school that day does not excuse what happened. The IEP has to be followed by everyone. It would be helpful if everyone who interacts with your child has read the IEP. The result of my complaint was that there was an overall improvement in how our school provided special education services for all students not just my child. Filing the state complaint did not have any detrimental effects for DS: We loved the school and DS attend it from preK-5. The school was great about following his IEP
