And of that list I'd say that VT and UW are the most well regarded but far from prestigious. Your son has solid credentials.....if he is seeking more prestigious schools I'd encourage him to look at colleges that used to be referred to as Di-AA......bucknell, lehigh, colgate, lafayette, etc. Those will at least get him into the ballpark.

Tell that to the GU, UVa, Cal, Michigan, Texas, Indiana, Nyu b-school kids making $115,000 their first year out of college at investment banks.

Way to slip Indiana in there.

$115,000 their first year out of college, doubtful.

My DC is making that first year out and didn’t even do undergrad bschool. Many of the bschool kids at DCs school (one listed above) are making that.

I think your views of bschool may be dated. I have an MBA and was similarly skeptical but the landscape has changed. The undergrad bschool programs are super competitive now and attracting smart kids and tons of recruiters.

Not sure if you’re being an ass, but IU was a great suggestion. Its business school is top notch.

I went to one of these schools (It was the flagship public school in my state). I had an easy time finding a job. I made $275k when I quit to stay home with my kids. I don’t think the school has a lot of prestige, but it (and the other schools on the list) is a solid school and a bright, hardworking student will do fine after graduating from there. Highly selective out of state schools were never an option for me based on $, etc, and I think I did as well going to the school I did as I would have at a Williams or Georgetown.

I went to an SEC school for law school that most DCUMers would scoff at. I didn’t even graduate at the top of my class and I have a great job and have never been negatively questioned about my school. I have honestly never seen such school snobbery anywhere but on this board.

My reasons for choosing my school were also that I wanted to go to a big school with great school spirit, sports, and a large alumni base. I am super glad with the path I chose and if I could do it all over again I wouldn’t change a thing.

Undergrad business majors make you more employable than a degree in comms, women's studies, and international affairs.....

He'll be fine at any of those schools OP. If you don't qualify for FA, go in-state for business. He'll learn what he needs to know at any state school.

Yeah but Kentucky has a great basketball program so brand name. I applied to law schools that were second tier (didn't have credentials) but had brand name through sports Syracuse, Miami, etc. Wouldn't have gotten into Duke, etc. Ended up at American and am apprehensive because I am going for a senior position at a company and their ad still says top school despite saying 10 plus years experience. Everyone kept saying law school matters for the first job but now all the Georgetown Law grads will flood the applicant pool for this job and they will be preferred. Not always the case; I used to work at a Wall Street law firm from American and they cared more about my experience as a lateral. But clearly some employers give a sh_t about school even 10 plus years out.

People care about law school prestige forever.

Prestige is a relative term. U of F is the state flagship of Florida. Of course it has prestige in that state.

You can earn a livable wage upon graduation, which is far better than what you get from most degrees. Why would "anybody that matters" value a psychology degree over a business degree?

Do these jobs exist throughout the country or only in NY?
