What high school honors can you safely put on your resume?

Op here. If it were a Top Score.

I have never had anything from high school on my resume but in PPs defense when I graduated from college consulting firms like McKinsey and Bain sometimes asked for your SAT scores.

I won a national engineering contest in high school. It went on my college applications, and on my resume until I was 21 (applying for my first "real" job after college). It hasn't appeared on my resume since then.

OP here. Suppose it weren’t specifically limited to engineers but were an all-around Academic Excellence accolade. Same answer?

By the way, I appreciate there is a clear consensus emerging. I’m just trying to probe this particular situation. Thank you.

The problem is that you are signalling you think this is impressive or relevant. My National Merit Scholarship award stayed on my resume until I went to university. After graduation from university, it was what I was able to do with my recent time and experience that was important.

I could see National Merit Scholarship staying on since you had the scholarship during college.

Otherwise, no, nothing from high school, and especially not SAT scores (I wish I could put mine on; it's been downhill ever since!)

I won pretty much every award there was in HS, in addition to being the equivalent of the valedictorian at a prestigious private (we didn't have an actual valedictorian). But I'm pretty sure the only thing from HS that ever made it onto a resume/job application ever was some summer retail store experience that I used my first summer in college to show I could hold down a real job.

In Silicon Valley it’s common to put Palo Alto High School. I assume it’s some kind of brogrammer signaling.

I know of some folks who mention they went to Thomas Jefferson during interviews — can’t remember if it was on resume or how it came up.

I didn't even graduate from college and even I have NOTHING on my resume about high school. I have read hundreds (maybe thousands?) of resumes and once people have a college degree nothing from high school is ever on the resume.

If you won World's for Bagpiping or Irish Step Dance.

If you are an Eagle Scout or Girl Scout Gold Award and still active.

This would go under interests section as it is a signal to the interviewer about a unique interest and that you are someone who was committed to something to participate at the elite level.

Nothing.

...and you filled out the application with those numbers. I believe Bain also wanted your high school transcript (coming out of Grad School) as their hiring philosophy was they wanted a demonstrated track record)

Wow. Absolutely nothing. This reminds me of the person who wanted to be a teacher wanting to include praxis scores. NO employer cares about those!

If you won World Bagpipe Championship as a High School Senior, you would not put it on your resume?

Well, it depends. Are you applying to jobs that require bagpipe skills?

How old are you, OP?

Nothing. The fact that you were, say, Outstanding US History Student at Big Box High School in, say, nova years ago is irrelevant.

I think the only thing would be Eagle Scout for networking
