TSA precheck when some members of a group have it, and some don't.

I wouldn't penalize the smart ones who have pre-check. Let them go through TSA and the dummies through regular.

+1. Unless you purchase all the tickets on one itinerary with precheck members then everyone on that reservation will have precheck. I have precheck, my husband doesn't. if travelling together I just book all together and he will get precheck on the same itinerary

However, family members ages 12 and under traveling with an eligible parent or guardian with a TSA Pre? ® indicator on their boarding pass can participate in expedited screening.

This may happen and does but it is not the rule. My wife's last name is different and she doesn't get the pre check.
