It appears Brett Kavanaugh is the early favorite. I think he should nominate someone having an elite education background at a minimum. That rules out Mike Lee and others from second tier law schools.

Who do you like?

Kavanaugh is Catholic. No way is Trump picking a white non-WASP male for this seat. His Evangelicals would freak out Next?

Depends on the quid pro quo Trump struck with Kennedy. Gorsuch and Kavanaugh both clerked for Kennedy.

Since when does Trump live up to his end of bargains? I agree though, Kavanaugh is a head fake. Trump loves the drama, glory, and pageantry of making this pick. I bet he makes it into another big live reveal on Monday. Who gets the rose??

Oh maybe we can put a white female in? Like there is any difference between a white female and a white male.

We are not casting a commercial. We are placing a judge on the Supreme Court.

Yes!

Our ruling class need not represent the dregs.

That's why they're in charge and you're not pleb.

I TOTALLY agree with you. Trump is not going to go with the predictable. He will nominate someone (some white male, let's be real) who he thinks will reflect well on HIM. He could have tattoed some promise to Kennedy on his chest, and he would ignore it -- he has zero loyalty to others, he just demands loyalty from them.

I think it will be a dark horse -- and I think his nominee will fail because he will go with someone he didn't properly vet. But it will 1,000% be a white man.

So why is the fringe right rebelling against kavanaugh?

Here's a novel idea: how about nominating the most qualified conservative without regard to gender, religion, race, ethnicity, etc? I would have said the most qualified person but given that Trump won the election and made it clear when he was campaigning that he'd nominate conservatives, the judicial philosophy of the candidate does become a given.

What I'd like to avoid is someone like Sotomayor who was chosen by Obama because she was a Hispanic and a woman and has shown based on her opinions to be an abysmal choice. Kagan is a liberal and her opinion have so much more substance.

Speaking of the Dersh, https://www.bostonglobe.com/lifestyle/names/2018/07/02/alan-dershowitz-laments-being-shunned-martha-vineyard/kX4jw27NAMAXCEbabBSRlN/story.html

Long story short, this out-of-touch Trump elite got his feelings hurt while vacationing on Martha’s Vineyard because a lack of political correctness.

Womp womp.

It appears Trump did just that. Kavanaugh doesn't check any boxes.
