I was 32 and in grad school. He was 28 and had a post-doc. We didn't really have an official engagement. At some point, he said, well, if we do the marriage thing, we should do it during this summer because it will fit into our professional plans for when we have to go out on the market. I said, that makes sense. And that was it. I don't believe in engagement rings or fancy proposals. We just knew. Married when I was 34. No registry. Had a picnic after the wedding and played volley ball. It was fun!
