Expectant and Postpartum Moms

I worked until I went into labor with my first, who arrived a week early. Plan on working until the baby comes this time too.
I would just prefer to have the time off after the baby arrives than before, plus I felt pretty good with my first pregnancy. |
I worked up until the day of my delivery with both pregnancies (and I have 2 weeks overdue with the first!). If it's your first baby, I'd say go ahead and save the time for after baby is born. If it's your second or third (or more) maybe take some time off before to spend with the children before the new baby arrives.
I am also a teacher & planned to work up to the due date with #1 (he was 9 days early). I lucked b/c he was born at the end of spring break so I got paid time off b/f! I must say though, I was so anxious being at home those few days. Work took my mind off labor & delivery. This time I am going to work til the due date but take a couple 'me' days off b/f now & Feb. b/c you do not get much alone time once baby comes.
I worked right up until I gave birth. I went into labor three and a half weeks early and had been planning to ask if I could work from home for the last week or so before my due date...I was really dragging those last few weeks. If I'd had more leave built up, I think I would have planned to take a few days off before my due date, but I didn't have a day to spare beyond my maternity leave and really didn't want to "waste" any of it before our baby arrived.
I worked until the day before my due date. My water broke four hours after I got home. I had my baby on my due date.
I worked until I went into labor. I left early one day not feeling well, went into labor that night, delivered the next day.
Worked on Friday, labor started Saturday, baby came on Sunday. Due date was Monday. Had an office job. My biggest issue was that for the last 2 weeks or so, I had pretty much wrapped up everything I could... so those last two weeks were filled with mind-numbing busywork. But I didn't want to use up leave in advance - and hell yes, I needed all of it, plus an addt'l 2 weeks I squeezed out of my boss, for a total of 14. I hope to God I can do that again when I have #2.
I worked a week past my due date. I was due Mon and worked until the following Friday. Gave birth the following Monday.

haven't read all of the replies, but you have to do what's best for you based on how you're feeling, how much tme you get off (would you be stealing time away from your actual maternity leave spent with baby?) and other factors.
For me, I worked up until the morning I gave birth, and then sent work-related emails while in labor. But I'm crazy.

For my first, I worked until the baby was born (came at 38.5 weeks). It sucked, not least because since I didn't know when my last day was, I left more things open than I would have liked. For my current pregnancy, I'm going to stop working at 37 weeks, so that I have a definite last day.
OP here..thanks for all of the responses. i have a sub that has slowly been taking over my classes week by week, so we are inthe classroom together. I have barely any off time since i have teken so much for my appointments with my midwives...so i will stick it out for a little longer...gotta make as much as i can before baby....hopefully she comes earlier than expected!

No, I did not work until my due date. DC#1 came at 34 wks 6 days, DC#2 at 38.5 weeks. In both cases my water broke in the middle of the night or very early in the mroning. I was at work the day before.
You will want the time with your child after, especially if you are managing a smooth transition already as you are now. I would keep hanging in there if you can. |
I worked until my due date and then beyond as I was nine days overdue. It was nice and kept my mind off being overdue.
Sorry, I have not read every response but I am working up until my due date because I am taking unpaid leave (I know, it sucks) and my employer will only cover half of my health care for 6 weeks exactly then I have to pay full price if I want to keep it. I'm swollen, achey, tired, moody, training staff for other positions along with my position for when I am out. I fantasize everyday about spending my days resting and nesting. LOL
