Best & most affordable private schools in Alexandria area

i do think SSSAS is the best school in Alexandria by far.
Strong academics, truly engaged teachers, emphasis on creating good citizens and curious students. You should look at it and see if there is aid available.
I think Blessed Sacrament and St. Mary's are also good options; Blessed Sacrament is smaller and definitely more rigid, but different kids respond to different approaches and we have friends who love it.
What about Browne Academy?

SSSAS is generally considered the "best" school in Alexandria in my experience. It was a little conservative for our taste, but we considered along with the usual "top schools." This is not to say that the others mentioned here are not as good academically, however. SSSAS has great facilities, a beautiful campus, good teachers in our experience (just know 1 teacher though), and we know a couple highly successful graduates in terms of elite colleges and even better character and athletic ability. Take it with a grain of salt, but one with a good reputation to check out for sure.

Well if you need to be at the middle school garage by 7:50 to be sure to catch the bus, I would think you’d need to leave anywhere in Alexandria by about 7:20 or before. That means leaving the house just about an hour before school starts. Not the longest commute ever, but seems long for an early elementary schooler.

Yes, we leave the house by 7:15, but it's NBD. The commute into DC gives us time to talk and listen to Audible books. Once on the bus, it's a time to hang out and socialize with friends.

Since your post basically consisted of negative comments about schools that you don't have personal experience sending your kids to, we'll manage without you.

That’s ridiculous. People can have info about a school without having sent their kids there. Looking at the school during the application process, close friends whose children have attended, long-term reputation, etc. are also valid data points.

Folks-the OP asked for good recommendations in the 10-15k range in Alexandria. Can we stop talking about Sidwell, SSAS and Browne Academy now? Those are way out of the range.

Honey, get that stick out of your butt. SSAS offer financial aid. Depending on their financisl situation and the student's specifics, they could grt almost a full ride. I don't think Browne does much by way of FA, but it's worth exploring. Otherwise, the only options are parochial schools.

Browne doesn't offer much off. You MAY get $5K off. Browne actually says they don't have endowments to give families FA.

Exactly. Can someone recommend a good solid commuter car under $20K

DCUM Board: you should get a Tesla.

OP: can’t afford one. Can pay only $20k

DCUM: if you love your kids you'll get a loan for it.

OP, the $10-$15,000 range, the only schools you could afford (maybe) would be the parochial schools. Of the ones in Alexandria, St. Rita's is the best.

However, the quality of education that you get at Alexandria City public schools at the top elementary schools -- Lyle Crouch, George Mason, MacArthur, Maury -- is probably better than that offered at any of the parochial schools.

Agree. Go public and use any extra money for enrichment during the AY, camps in the summer and travel.

I'll never know (NP). The admissions did not return any calls or emails.
