What’s your shape?

Adolescent boy shape. 5'6", 115, no boobs post-breastfeeding. But shapely arms and legs and a flat stomach. I love a-line and swing dresses - need something to give me a little bit of shape.

Rectangle.

Most women I see these days are rectangle. It's a little odd TBH.

Hourglass with bigger shoulders/torso, small waist, bigger hips. Stomach used to be flat, now a bit of c-section pooch. Like the shape overall.

I'm a rectangle. I'd be an apple if I gained more weight. Not sure I'll ever see hourglass.

Not me, I'm all curves. Although if I don't define my waist I can look chunky and rectangular.

I'm tall-ish with a very short torso, big boobs, and big hips.

very similar body to monica belucci, maybe with slightly bigger hips and a shorter torso. wish I had her face too!

I'm the PP...just googled monica and she is listed at 5'7" and 140. I'm 5'8" and 140. Totally realize i probably don't resemble monica in real life but i'd like to think so!

Hourglass or pear. Wish I was a bit shape because then pants would fit me.

What’s Wrong with swing dressss?

They do not flatter people with hips and waists. If you feel they look good on you, please buy them all.

So, I actually like swing dresses. Yes, I'm the exact type of person who should never wear them (short, short-waisted, extreme pear shape.) Yes, I have complete strangers asking me about my (non-existant) pregnancy. On one hand, I can just jut out out my tummy a bit and easily get a seat on Metro. On the other hand, I accept the fact that I'm 25 pounds overweight and that's not going to magically fix itself by summer. The swing dresses at least offer an option that can be dressed up with the right accessories to be work-appropriate, without having really uncomfortable fabric bunching around my waist.

TL;DR: Swing dresses are awesome on chub-cubs because they don't constrict the tummy area. If you actually have a nice figure (hourglass / defined waist), just cinch at the waist.

See, thar’s What I thought. They work if you have a defined waist.

If you cinch a swing dress you get a bunch of fabric pleated up under the belt (also it's no longer a swing dress). If you have a defined waist and big hips / tummy, you should by a dress with a fitted or banded waist and a flared skirt.
