Can a DC resident pay for their child(ren) to attend a MD public school?

I don’t know if each county charges a different amount, but for Frederick County, out of county residents pay $6000, and out of state pay $12,900.

They move constantly in and out of MoCo and in and out of the DCC. They are nearly all illegal but no school official wants to be deemed racist for calling these kids' families out.

Same at our school but nobody has the time or energy or resources to pursue the false addresses!

PP again

I should clarify that I don’t think it’s a race issue though I agree with the rest of the post.

We have families of all backgrounds that do this at our school. There are two Latino families, two Asian families and two White families who attend our ES but live out of boundary. So I don’t think it’s a race issue, just that MCPS does not have the ability to monitor where it’s students live!

A co-worker who lives in Frederick County has noted that they have the same issues there, FWIW.

They'd be a lot less swamped if the student body was 20% smaller.

So, how do we track down these families? Are you willing to volunteer your time??

MCPS should set up an online form that you can submit anonymously if you know of someone who is attending your school using a false address. Lots of parents are aware which families do this at our school, but the principal has a million other things to do and can’t be bothered. Then, the people whose job it is to actually investigate will have leads.

How often do you catch people? Very very rare to get caught. Families have done this for years without consequence.

MCPS does not have the resources or the ability to enforce residency requirements.

+ 1

If you do not ask for legal status or home address then how will you know? I know of students who are homeless and are in MCPS schools. They are legal residents too.
