I don't want to post any exact stats but GPA is 3.4-3.5 (3.7 weighted) range and SAT scores are under 1250.

She did like the feel of UMD, just not the surrounding town. It appears she is leaning towards schools that are not a city style campus (Pitt for example) and wants something of a self-contained campus (nice green areas) with a nice surrounding town.

if your daughter paid more attention to academia and less to campus lifestyle should might have had better grades.

Let me guess. Bored SAHM who married rich and now fill her day insulting teenagers. You must be so proud.
By the way you are probably getting a bit old for your older husband. He's probably looking to trade you in. Maybe you should have paid more attention to being a good wife and less time trolling.

FAIL
not sahm (would never been one); husband was a college boyfriend

it's not the gpa that is the problem, it's her outrageous "i want this, i don't want that" (all of which has nothing to do with her future major or a career) which her mother, for some reason, insanely tolerates.

When did she ever indicate that she's demanding certain things? You need to get a grip. She's allowed to prefer a green campus rather than a city campus when deciding where she'll live for the next four years REGARDLESS of her stats.

is she paying for it? if not, she is not allowed any more than she is allowed to prefer a ferrari to a honda.

Can we move on from this craziness and get back on topic. Start another thread if you want to discuss this nonsense.

Definitely look at Ohio University and Miami (Ohio).

If she is open to small liberal arts schools, consider Ohio Wesleyan, Ursinus, Juniata, College of Wooster.

Ohio Wesleyan, Ursinus, Juniata, College of Wooster - all of these are close to $60k/year. I don't think they are giving out $15-20k per year in merit aid for 3.7 GPA and 1200 SAT.

OP should run the Net Price Calculator for each. Her DD could qualify for merit money.

I have a DC in a similar situation (similar stats) but we are looking for something other than the large public state universities.

Any smaller type schools that offer merit aid and are worth attending.

Many will offer merit with those (not average) stats.

She is not getting into Wisconsin with her stats.

Um, 25-75% SAT score at Wisconsin is 1200-1350. OP said hers is below a 1250 so my guess is between 1200-1250
On Naviance and Niche, plenty of people getting in on those stats with her GPA. It is a lock in? No way but it isn't a complete reach and a school she could aim for.

We just visited Ole Miss and Alabama. Both beautiful campuses. Both give a lot of merit aid, especially Ole Miss. My son with VERY average stats got some merit aid from them. Good luck!

An OOS students' stats would need to be at the high end of the distribution, or be a hooked and/or full pay student.

University of South Carolina gives excellent merit aid. I know several students who received enough to make it comparable to in state tuition.

University of Kansas has a nice self containe d campus and in a nice town. Could also look at the University of Iowa.
