Only if it involves 7-11s and Greyhound busses. When we see them raiding big business and agriculture, I might believe this is something other than racism. |
It's a starting point--unlike the progressives who want a "Clean DACA"--amnesty for Dreamers and their families and nothing else. No border wall, security, changes in immigration policy. That's where Chuckie stands right now. |
If you think this country was based on the principal of welcoming immigrants, you need to read the history of the early years of the republic. |
DP.. freedom of speech applies to all Americans, not just "real" ones who are more than 2nd generation. You think only 2nd generation Americans and beyond have the right to criticize this country? |

Again, if Rs were serious about rounding up illegal immigrants, all they would have to do is raid farms across America. It would be like shooting fish in a barrel. But no, they wouldn't dare hurt their base. Farmers overwhelmingly vote R and most use illegal immigrant labor. |
Let’s do that: Immigrants exhibit a large proportion of ingenious and valuable workmen. -Alexander Hamilton Thomas Jefferson argued immigration was important, “a right which nature has given to all men, of departing from the country in which chance, not choice, has placed them.” Ben Franklin said immigrants “contribute greatly to the improvement of a Country.” “This freedom arises from that multiplicity of sects which pervades America.” -James Madison “If there is a country in the world where concord... would be least expected, it is America. Made up as it is of people from different nations, accustomed to different forms and habits of government, speaking different languages, and more different in their modes of worship, it would appear that the union of such a people was impracticable...[but] if the government protects the equal rights of all, the parts are brought into cordial unison. -Thomas Paine |
2 incidents 25 years ago and a recent DUI and domestic violence charge. Your poster boy has quite a rap sheet it round out. |
ICE is a rogue agency. |
DUI was expunged. Acquitted of DV charge. Ever hear of due process and the rule of law? |
“Principle” is the proper word. Sigh. |
To be fair, like Trump, they were referring to white people. Slaves weren’t exactly “immigrants” or “guest workers.” |
We are not facing a shortage of STEM-qualified workers. In fact, we appear to have a considerable STEM surplus. Only half of students graduating with a STEM degree are able to find STEM jobs. Beyond that, if there was an actual shortage of STEM workers, basic supply and demand would predict that the wages of STEM workers would be on the rise. Instead, wages in STEM fields have not budged in over a decade. http://prospect.org/article/stem-shortage-myth What’s perhaps most perplexing about the claim of a STEM worker shortage is that many studies have directly contradicted it, including reports from Duke University, the Rochester Institute of Technology, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, and the Rand Corp. A 2004 Rand study, for example, stated that there was no evidence “that such shortages have existed at least since 1990, nor that they are on the horizon.” That report argued that the best indicator of a shortfall would be a widespread rise in salaries throughout the STEM community. But the price of labor has not risen, as you would expect it to do if STEM workers were scarce. http://blogs.sciencemag.org/pipeline/archives/2013...of_the_stem_shortage_in_detail So Many Degrees, So Little Demand - But he believes that STEM advocates, often executives and lobbyists for technology companies, do a disservice when they raise the alarm that America is facing a worrying shortfall of STEM workers, based on shortages in a relative handful of fast-growing fields like data analytics, artificial intelligence, cloud computing and computer security. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/01/education/edlif...tem-jobs-industry-careers.html |
They let things come to a head getting right to the brink of a shutown and ONLY NOW they are realizing they should do something?
Good grief. |
It's a privilege and not the right to become a citizen of this country. Earning the privilege assumes been held to a higher levels of responsibility. This country is not a dump, you know. During my (and about 100 more peoples') naturalization ceremony one guy showed up with an unpaid parking violation ticket and was turned away. The judge told him to pay the fine and come back in six months. It has nothing to do with Democracy, it's law and order. I like it this way. |
