A Prius is a great choice!

Isn't a Lexus a fancy Toyota?

Yes.

OP - look for Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla or a Subaru as PP said. You should be able to get one under 10k easy.

Given your three choices, I would have to choose Option #3, the Lexus due to it having an excellent reliability record which the other two do not.

Fords + VWs are pure junk as they age.

However buying a used car w/$10G is a little crazy if the car already has 100+miles on it.

The Gold standard in reliability would be a Honda or a Toyota.
I bet you can find a good, used Civic, Accord, or a Corolla w/less than 100miles on it for your price point.
Just please stay away from Domestic cars please.

Just curious when did Subaru become a car to trust long-term? I had a 2000 and a 2004 and I loved everything about them except what nuisances they were at high mileage.

I can't find a Toyota with 100k or less for under 10k. The car would be like 10 year's old. 10k for an old car seems crazy to me.

You need to save a few more thousand op. You should be able to find a decent car around 12k.

Get a Mazda, Honda, Toyota or Subaru and you are good to go. Cars should take you from one place to another.
You'll be spending a lot of time in repair shop with your selected cars.
When I see a tow truck, I always check out the car brand. most of the time it has been American made, German made comes second, then the rest.

You keep saying "get a Toyota, get a Subaru"

Do you realize Toyota owns both Lexus and Subaru? The Lexus GS 300 is just a rebadged Toyota Avalon. It's the same car.

I used to think this way as well but nowadays i'm willing to pay more for the same product made by Soichiro, haru, and asahi in Japan over bubba, billy bob, and beauregard in america.
