Scotland area. Google the history behind that area.

A look at their staff directory ( http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/schools/cabinjohnms/staff/directory.aspx ) shows that they have 37 teachers for special education ( plus 3 special education support staff, and 3 speech pathologists). By comparison there are seven science teachers, nine math teachers, and nine English teachers.

So it certainly seems like they are making the effort for special education students, whatever the results show.

Most of those are paraeducators and they may be assigned to specific kids. Most are not teachers but it looks like they have a strong autism program there, which is great.

What exactly is the point of this thread? To rip on special ed kids?
Don’t you people have anything better to do?

Scotland area. Google the history behind that area. Apparently, there was/is a gang from that area that goes to Churchill. Oh, and when there was some violence that broke out several years ago, the Principal told the white/asian parents not to worry because it was black on black violence - paraphrasing, but that was the gist of it.

Wow, having black on black violence doesn't make it better. When did this happen? Does Churchill has the same principle?

It was a while ago - 11years, but the Principal is still there.

How did you come to this conclusion?

If your kid has special education needs you should research the programs and determine the best fit. Test scores are a ridiculous way to make this decision.

Not sure living in a slum called the snakes Den until it was condemned and turned into public housing out of pity in the 70s counts as a long and rich history but I guess you need to hold on to what you got when you have nothing. Still the worse part of Potomac that produces the largest percentage of dropouts, suspensions and trouble makers at Churchill out of any neighborhood.

Sometimes pride is misplaced and unwarranted

This is about test scores not SN kids. Some of our SN kids do very well in testing.

Cabin John houses LFI, Autism, and SCB. These are all separate, self-contained programs that require a lot of staffing. And all of these programs are certificate-track, not diploma, so the kids' test scores are not counted with the rest of the school.

Please provide more information about this. My kid is about to enter Bridge and I've heard good things about it. I would like to hear why you say this!

Some Kids are just really stupid and others are cripplingly disabled and everything in between. You don’t know the mix and they are off to the side so why does it really matter?

WTF?

Yep. This attitude is why we left: bet it’s an MCPS employee too. (Likely works with spec Ed kids!)

The stereotypes have no place here. Just becausse the neighborhood skews BIPOC and low-income doesn't mean we judge a whole group.

That principal retired and was known to not only be very ineffective but stayed way past her expiration date. Please stop with the "Black on Black" crime.

Everybody knows the Scotland kids but it makes for a better basketball team

What's that supposed to mean? I'm sure they do way more than play basketball. Obvious racial stereottype.
