| What are good private schools for girls’ basketball? Daughter is currently a middle schooler in an ok public school and is very good at basketball. Loves the sport and has a great attitude, very coachable from what we hear from her coaches and is playing on a travel team though not super competitive. She wants to play ball at a private school which also values academics. What schools should we look at? When and where do these coaches recruit? Would appreciate any guidance since my wife and I have never played the sport so don’t have the inside knowledge |
She needs to play for a top AAU team in the area first to develop and get noticed. Read this recent thread and search archives. https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1145837.page |
Volleyball is like this at Oconnell at the varsity level. Coach recruits from his gig being a club coach during club season. He already knows who will be on his varsity team way ahead and many don’t bother trying out. It’s a shame as it takes away from the community feel of the team when you keep recruiting in to perfect your team . Like they said before, it’s the profesionalizariib of HS sports. At least in private schools. Anything to win. |
Most of the boys sports. Last year’s Heisman trophy winner went to Gonzaga (private boys’ school in DC). |
WCAC schools she won't make the team unless she is very very good |
What travel team? It sounds like she may not be WCAC competitive, but GDS, Potomac, Bullis would all be good fits for girls basketball. |
| Does she live in DC? |
| My son is a 5'10" 145lb white PG playing at a high level (sports) private school. He was playing on the varsity team as a sophomore. He was one of two white kids on that team. As an earlier post pointed out, if he can play, he can play. A coach is not going to turn down a good player if that player is going to benefit the team and score points. For background, it's his only sport and he's been passionate about it since he was 5yo. |
