Elizabeth and Isabel?

Yup.

Agreed. Chalk me up as one of the 90% that didn't realize they're the "same name" in different languages. They don't sound that much alike and they have different nicknames for the most part. And I think Lizzy and Izzy would actually be pretty cute! I would've loved if my sister and I had had similar sounding nicknames. Of course, I am the younger one. Bella, on the other hand, makes me think of Twilight.

I like Beth for a nickname. I like Isabella better than Isabel.

Yeah sorry OP I would assume you are ignorant and don’t read much.

OP here, not sure who is answering these questions on my behalf but they are twin girls and not yet born!

As a mother of twins and a twin myself, I beg you...do not give them such close names. Being a twin comes with its own joys and challenges. One of the big challenges is being seen as an individual and not just as "one of the twins." It's no big deal when they are cute babies, but it will suck for them school. Give them separate names PLEASE. (Elizabeth and Annabelle seems like a good option.)

I would assume you are uneducated and ignorant. Very stupid.

I wouldn't give it a second thought. They are lovely names in their own right.

I knew an Andre and an Andrew who were brothers. There mother just liked the name.

What would be weird if you named them both George.

I think people calling you ignorant etc. are overreacting, but agree that the names are too close for siblings, let alone twins. Plug each one into Nymbler and you'll find a bunch of suggestions of similar names that aren't actually the same name, and work up a list from there.

Barring the knowledge that it's the same name in different languages, I don't think these two names are similar sounding in English at all.

This. And Isabel is so much more classic than Bella or Isabella.

My twin great aunts are Sharon and Karen. They still hate their names 70 years later.

They're not the same name. Elizabeth is Elizabeth. Isabel is Isabel. Would you say that John and Ivan have the same name? Or James and Diego? Or even Vaclav and Wenceslas? I wouldn't.

Yes, yes I would.

Would you name your kids Mary and Maria? Or Katherine and Catrina?

To do this to twins is terrible.

OP, do this is you must, but know you are going to get a lot of judgement and whispers behind your back.

"Does she know she named her girls the same name?"
"Should someone tell her?"
"I bet she's one of those twin moms who will dress them identically as well..."

and so on.
