Long Islander here. What a weird comment! You know what the GPA, rigor, test scores required to get in are. So if the kids from LI are not "studious" are they just naturally brilliant? |
We visited last spring and I was struck by "just right" feel of the campus. My DC did not apply in the end, but it was a really positive experience after spending 2/3rds of junior year in hybrid learning. Nothing felt "resource deprived." |
It may be in the South, but it is certainly not a "Southern school." |
The idea of Emory being "resource deprived" is laughable! It's 2021 endowment is 9.2 BILLION. And there are only about 14k students at the school. It's flush with cash. |
It is also because there are zero sororities - zero - old bi-law about unrelated women living under the same roof constituting a "brothel". My BFF went there and was able to share an apt with no more than 2 other unrelated girls. |
Nope. Hard no. There are sororities, but not sorority houses. I was a proud member of an Emory sorority for four years (well, 3.5 - we rush in January). Back in the 90s they had "lodges" that would house no more than four of the sorority members - they were repurposed two-bedroom townhouses. But there are new sorority locations on campus. I don't know if they house people or just serve as a meeting place. |
Obnoxious and totally self centered. The Long Islanders I knew there were drug crazed and not serous students. Many prepped their way to reasonable test scores and were full pay. |
It's higher than that. |
SIGH. Why do people constantly respond this way about Emory, Wash U and Tufts ... It must be sour grapes or the same 5 posters ... |
Well I hit the trifecta as an alum who is from LI and Jewish and was rejected by my first choice Penn (I don't think I am obnoxious ). I had a great experience at Emory and highly recommend - and I had many friends who did not tick any of those boxes, by the way . I hope my own kids consider it, although I know the whole process is so competitive and fraught nowadays.
