Do teens at wealthier schools really feel pressure to have the latest & greatest iPhone?

I think a lot of it is driven by the parents rather than the kids. We are at a similar school, and my child was annoyed to have no phone at all until 7th. His friends were sympathetic, but not judgmental. He's had a hand me down IPhone 6 since 9th and has never asked for an upgrade. They just want to be able to communicate with friends.
