Does your employer allow you to keep your frequent flyer points earned on business travel?

We had two sales regions in our company, and the event planner for one of the regions was gathering planner points and using them to offset the cost of meetings they were putting on. The event planner in the other region was gathering them for herself.

Quite the shitshow when that was uncovered.

Yup. And I book myself so dollars as well. Yay chase sapphire. We submit for pre travel authorization and it has to be within opm govt rates so we can't book the Marriott of its pricier.

There was actual legislation passed in 2001 permitting federal employees to retain their frequent flyer miles.

Sure. I am a lawyer, though, and book (or have my assistant book) all my own travel and put in for reimbursement.

I work for a US Senator and he has over 5 million amex and plenty of FF points on all airlines. It is allowed.

like the fact that it's allowed for a Senator means it's allowed for all feds.

do you know how many laws Congress has exempted itself from? If Congress had to live under half the microscope that feds do they'd all be out of a job

Not pp, but I used to work on the Hill, and, no, I don't know how many laws Congress has exempted itself from. Would you please list them for me? And don't list Obamacare, because I was forced to be on Obamacare (as are all members) when I was on the Hill.

NP here, and former Hill staffer. To start, pretty much all labor laws do not apply to Congress.

Interesting...at my agency now we have to book all hotels with our government travel card which means no reward points using personal cards and we have to get a government travel card, which is also a hassle because only certain things can go on the government card (many times I pull accidentally pull out my government card only to catch it at the last second).

Yup, I get to keep my FF miles.

Likewise when I was a fed 13 years ago, I also got to keep FF miles.

My previous employer did not and it was a huge source of angst for the employees that had to travel. Many/most were told during the hiring process they would be allowed to keep those points for their own use and didn't find out until onboarding that they wouldn't. That, combined with finding out during onboarding that travel time was not considered billable/utilization time (when again, they were told during the hiring process it would be) caused one guy to walk out of orientation and quit right then and there. This was a big consulting org so this was a pretty big issue for the folks that were going to be traveling full time.

At my firm, you keep your frequent flyer miles, but the firm keeps the Corporate Amex points
