IVF with Keith. With all of the weird rules around medicine and Scientology, perhaps it's not allowed.

I haven't read if she tried to get pregnant w/ Cruise before the adoptions. There were stories that she suffered an ectopic pregnancy just before Cruise shut her out and blindsided her with a quick divorce. She's said she and Keith were very blessed to have the first daughter at 40. The second daughter was born via gestational carrier.

I think this line in her acceptance speech is worse:

"I have two little girls, Sunday and Faith, and my darling Keith," Kidman said in her speech. "This is yours. I want my little girls to have this on their shelf and to look at it and go, 'Every time my mommy didn't put me to bed, it's because of this. I got something!'"

Yes, Nicole, I'm sure Sunday and Faith are so, so proud of you and would rather have that tacky statue to look at, as opposed to their mom to actually talk to, any day.

I agree 10000%. I think she just came across very narcissistic. Like her kids care about her award, really.

Agree. My opinion of her has nosedived

I saw that too! I was wondering if maybe he's gay? I love Keith Urban, but I really love Nicole. I'll always have respect for her for the way she pulled herself together after Tom Cruise dumped her. As I recall it, she was stunned and it came out of nowhere. I got the impression she had no plans to leave him and her kids, but he forced the issue. I just can't like him anymore after first that and then Katie. I hate he's so brainwashed into the Scientology cult.

First Mimi, then Nicole, then Katie:

I grew up with a SAHM and I really wish I hadn't. She left a high flying job to do it and seemed so bored, all the time. I think it gave me a very poor idea of what womanhood meant- suffering and ennui.

Yeah. My mom gave up a career to be a SAHM and I think it would have been better for her in so many ways if she had continued to work. It's really sad that women feel this pressure to constantly be around their kids, when it's not necessary. They REALLY do fine with other caretakers or not having mom doting over them 24/7.

+1. My mom is was like the smartest and hardest working in her college class (as I found out decades later when I went to her college reunion). When I was growing up she was driving herself nuts by obsessing over eradicating every speck of dirt from our house and having a perf ft organizational system. She's like one of those shepherding dogs kept as a pet--they start herding the dust bunnies just to have an outlet for their worker bee drive. My mom and I get along great, by the way. I don't think either of us resents the other. But it did make me always want to make sure I had something to work on other than my house!

CAN WE PLEASE NOT TURN THIS INTO A SAHM DEBATE PLEASE!!!!

Just watched her speech. So good, and she looked beautiful. So thoughtful that she mentioned domestic abuse.

Reese on the other hand is very shrill.

She was excited and impassioned. I don't think she came close to shrill. Women can't win--they're labeled emotional, angry, or shrill.

Both Nicole and Reese have been given lots of kudos today to best speeches. It's also been said that it was criminal how much talent was stacked in the Lead Actress in a limited series category. These two won Emmys for Best Limited Series because the produced the series as well. Nicole also landed on top of the best dressed lists. What else to women need to do to keep DCUMers from clacking that it's too shrill, too narcissistic, oh she shouldn't leave her daughters to work! Oh she shouldn't mention the little girls! Oh why didn't she mention her adult children who've shunned her for 15 years? Oh she's too tall. Oh she's too short!? These two women have been working hard for many years. They're just not that controversial in real life.

Not the ones who are genuinely nice, and not self-absorbed. You won't find that in Hollywood, of course.

PP here. I love Reese; follow her on IG and really think she's a smart and normal girl. I know she was excited, but damn her voice is so shrieky and she is just not as well spoken as Nicole. She talks like Elle Woods

My mom worked. The difference between her personality now and my mother in law who never worked is astounding. And it's not just my MIL- almost of the ones I know that quit their careers ended up being narcissists and alcoholics. And the way they treat their husbands is abysmal. My mom is amazing- loving and the perfect grandparent. My MIL has never taken our kids for a weekend. And my mom does it all the time. My aunt was a SAHM and hates her grandchildren but loves her bourbon.

The ones that make the SAHM thing a detour in life turn out a lot better. My population sample is only about 20 or so, but for those of you getting triggered- there is a reason for it- it rings a little bell of truth.

Shrill voice plus southern accent = dealbreaker.

This was an amazing project for Reese and Nicole from the very beginning to last night. It started when Reese read a book by an Australian author, calls her friend Nicole who is headed to Sydney and soon at a coffee shop discussing optioning the book with the author. And goes on from there. They deserve to be excited giddy beyond measure. Remarkably, there aren't great shows with outstanding female leads produced by women. Maybe we shouldn't be too hard on Reese for being excited.

Huh. Your mom wasn't the typical SAHM, especially these days when women leave their "high flying" careers purposefully, to take care of their children. Too bad your mom didn't realize just how fortunate she was.
