| Any obsession is a no (including work). Total turn off if a man does not care about football (or soccer if not an American man or hockey if Canadian). He doesn't have to watch it religiously, but has to follow. |
| It's a big turnoff. Football is the epitome of lame American culture. Starring at a TV all day and eating fat food is kind of gross, especially if done every weekend. |
It is not every weekend. There is no football from Presidents day to labor day. |
| I dated a guy like this and it seemed fine at the time. My DH loves sports but we don't schedule around games and he's fine watching on DVr. I don't think I could ever go back to the "must watch" mentality esp after kids. |
The last sentence is simply FALSE. The college football season started in late August. |
| A guy who is not interested in ( American) football is hopelessly weird. |
|
I would not want to date a guy who DIDN'T like football! I have my own fantasy teams and love to watch my college alma mater play on saturday, and watch NFL all day Sunday. (We don't have kids and don't want them, so I can also understand why this would be a problem for people with kids. Totally normal way to feel.) We actually like rival NFL teams so it makes for some fun teasing and betting on our teams and I feel like it brings us together! We often get together with family and friends to watch the games so it goes beyond our own relationship.
For what it's worth, my father is also a big football fan. So I was brought up loving football (and other sports). It's also a way for me to connect with my dad. If you weren't brought up on sports I can see why you might think it's silly, but don't judge those of us who use it as a way to connect and have fun with out spouse and families. |
| Who are all these men people are dating/married to that don't like football? I guess you scored all the really rich and successful alpha males that happen to not like the sport that dominates masculine culture in this country. Have a hard cider on me fellas, you continue to defy expectations. |
| Fantasy is for geeks of football. Real fans watch their favorite team and love them thick and thin. That ladies... is a real man! |
Sort of. There were a handful of games before Labor Day weekend. Real games started Labor Day weekend. What they are doing is starting to play on days other than Saturday. So Friday night college football is becoming a thing. Some teams are resisting it because game day is a big event. |
| It's a turn off for me. |
Same here. It's fine to be a fan, but it's not fine to inconvenience everyone else on a regular basis as a result. |
This. Huge turn-off for me. I totally get liking a sport- I danced my whole life, still take a class once a week for fun, and have favorite dancers I follow. But spending hours every weekend watching dance videos would be weird and unhealthy. |
That's a stupid statement, if for no other reason than that there are lots of other sports, and there is nothing strange about preferring baseball or hockey or soccer to football. |
| Give me a blue collar, beer drinking, works with his hands, football watching dude any day of the week. You all can have your pleated khaki pants wearing, can't fix a thing, pudgy man boob beta males. |
