Do you have a kid like this who did not get into AAP?

I've had 5 people divulge both scores to me in the parent referral process because I have older kids in AAP and my youngest is friends with their kids. They basically asked if I thought the scores were worth referring. I don't know the GBRS because at that point they didn't know it either, but they did told me the NNAT and CogAT. Some people talk openly about scores, some treat scores as very private. 4 had both scores in the 120s and all of them got in. One didn't because one score was below 120. Based on that, I'd say 122 on the NNAT is not a deal breaker.

That's my experience too. No one said anything about SPECIFIC scores. Parent A says that the AART suggested recommending Larla for AAP, but since Larla bombed the NNAT and only scored in the low 120s on the CogAT, she is wondering whether that is too low. Parent B replies that all 3 of her kids had scores similar to that, and they're all doing fine in AAP. Parent C says her kid's NNAT was almost in pool, but CogAT was only high teens, and she wasn't sure about referring either. You're parent D, and you know your own kids' scores. Months later, all of the kids are in AAP. That could easily amount to knowing at least ballpark-wise 8 scores in a single conversation.

122 on the NNAT is definitely not a deal breaker. It's a score that neither hurts nor helps the OP's case.

125 on the nnat isn't a deal breaker but you can't say it doesn't hurt the kid's file. It does weaken the file. Yes, other scores can allow that one score to count less but it doesn't change that there is now a weaker score in the kid's file.

This is what happened to our kid. She scored in the high 120's on both NNAT and COGAT with a 13 GBRS, but was denied initially and after appeal. We did not get a WISC since the school has LLIV. She ended up being principal placed and is loving school so much more this year.

DS has a friend from preschool who is naturally super smart. he is very sharp, learned to read early, can spell well and is knowledgeable. He tested only average on both the NnAT and cogat and did not get into AAP. his mom said he does not enjoy school, fights with her daily about doing homework despite being very bright. I feel like it is a shame because he is so smart.

This is the problem with group tests like NNAT and Cogat. It's impossible to tease out kids who are just not that interested in the test from those who trying their hardest so the tests end up missing a lot of very smart kids.

Happened to us. Fast forward a few years and she is in advanced math (in language immersion) and level III and doing great. I was frustrated at the time but it has all turned out fine.

Did you ever try to get her in to Level IV again after the first one?

This is a similar situation of my daughter, she score in the high 120's on both NNAT (126) and CoGAT (128) with 12 GBRS, denied initially and after appeal with WISC 126. How did your daughter end up in principal placed?
I am feeling a bit concerned because it is only the second week and she already said she has not learned Math in class at all.

Ha!! Yes, but your "low" NNAT scores are funny. My son got a 102. Luckily we love his school and now I can sit back during this second grade year and let all the other parents stress! I'm confident he'll get a great education with AAP.

Good luck to all of you!
