Men - would you want to go with your wife to a strip club?

Yup. I like naked women plenty, but this is why I don't care for strip clubs.

My DH said something similar. And yes, I trust him.

Women who want to do this are trying too hard to appear super cool and edgy.

Man here who likes strip clubs.

I am under no illusion these women desire me. However, I know they would prefer to dance for me than either sit around making no money or dance for the creeper who hasn't showered in a while.

I assume you are under no illusion that your masseuse actually wants to rub your body. Or your lawyer enjoys talking to you, or your car mechanic loves working on your car.

It's a profession. I know I am paying them for their time. But just like your lawyer, doctor, masseuse, they also appreciate respectful customers that enjoy themselves, follow the rules and tip generously.

It's a business.

I am a straight Female & used to go to a strip club w/my ex-boyfriend.

He even paid for me to get a lap dance!

Then we would go home + have amazing sex after being in such a sexual environment.

It depends what you're paying them for. With a lawyer, masseuse, or mechanic, I'm paying them for a particular service. The conversation surrounding that is incidental. If they're pleasant, I don't care too much if they truly like me. With a stripper, I guess this works if looking at their appearance and the art of their dance or whatever is the reason you're spending your money. For me, the nature of sexual attraction is that I need to feel like the woman desires me. I can't maintain that illusion when I'm at a strip club.

I don't knock those who either can maintain the illusion or who enjoy it just for the physical appearance of the women. It's just not my thing.

There was a particular singer/entertainer that my wife loved and reaped the benefit when she got home. Primed and wet

DH here. I've never felt comfortable in strip clubs. Went two or three times in my 20s and felt gouged for money. Then in my 30s, got dragged to one by a work colleague -- same feeling. Now in m 40s with two girls of my own, I just feel like it's too creepy.

ive done it several times.

i dont hide how i would act if she wasnt around and in turn, whenever i would go with my friends, she already knows my behavior.

im not saying this as someone who goes all the time.

I'd go with my wife if she wanted to.

Like most things fun and sexual, she does not want to.

I imagine that your wife is a lot more expensive than the strippers.

There IS a dollar value for which the stripper would have sex with you. For more money, she'd pretend to be enthusiastic.

Wife, on the other hand... you couldn't pay her enough to feign enthusiasm.

Second, if I suggested it to her she would look at me and ask "WTF? Am I not enough for you?"

Woman here. I'm more than happy to give my DH a lap dance though technically its referred to as a cowgirl or reverse cowgirl. I do think it would be interesting to go to a strip club and watch the customers and not the girls. Who are these people, why are they there, don't they have anything better to do? Yuck!

Oh please, stop clutching your pearls. You really wonder why men want to look at naked women? Oh gosh, what might be the appeal?

This is going to shock you, but here goes: the men who would want to look at naked, young women, other than their wives, include your pastor, your kid's teacher, the local cop, your dad and your son and your husband. Basically, all men.

Uh, no. Not all men want to look at naked women. Certainly some, maybe most but I'd bet it's more like 1/2.

Now the problem for me is not the naked women (which I guess I might be OK with?), it is the value of going to a strip club. I'm not cool on spending $20 cover charge, paying top $ for shitty cocktails and being pestered by 20 years skanks who want to want to grind on me for $20 for a 3-minute song. If that is not enough there is always the 40-year-old willy veteran who looks strung out on something. Deep down you know that these women are not only not turned on by you but actively despise you. An added bonus is if you get turned on, nothing is going to happen.

So no not all men want o get to a strip club.

But hey the feeling of contempt is mutual, so there's that.

But wait a second, if I wanted to be in a sex act where both people despise each other, I could reach for the wife...

THE FEMINIST TAKE: I feel that the sex industry exploits the vast majority of its participants. (Read Rachel Moran's memoir of prostitution.) That said, I think it is worse to hold women working in it in contempt. They are not 'skanks' any more than women having abortions are. They are mothers, daughters, sisters, friends trying to earn a decent living. Insulting strippers is insulting all women.

I dated a girl in college who stripped. She said that creepy old guys put their hands on her regularly. She still kept doing it for a while though.

No, strip clubs are pathetically depressing. Who wants to see lonely guys drinking beer and watching naked women they would never be able to get.
