Yup. He's a snob. The idea that Darcy is "shy" came from that pathetic excuse P&P with Keira knightly. |

Jamie Fraser FTW. Everything about his character is appealing and the actor in the TV series is so so so hot.
But I wouldn't kick Mr. Darcy out of bed either. Perhaps I need one very large bed. |

For the people who are mentioning Outlander, did you guys read the books?
If not, I'm jealous of you because you are in for an amazing experience. Those books are so well-written and vivid, and the level of detail (of weird, unexpected people and situations and places) elevate the series to something much higher than simple Romance. Seriously, go read the books if you have not done so. I love the TV series too, but the books are EVEN BETTER. |
Agree! |
A snob would not defy relatives to marry "beneath him." |
| love all the Gabaldon books. she is an amazing writer. |
Again, did you read the book? "Spoiler alert" "As a child I was taught what was right, but I was not taught to correct my temper. I was given good principles, but left to follow them in pride and conceit. Unfortunately an only son (for many years an only child), I was spoilt by my parents, who, though good themselves (my father, particularly, all that was benevolent and amiable), allowed, encouraged, almost taught me to be selfish and overbearing; to care for none beyond my own family circle; to think meanly of all the rest of the world; to wish at least to think meanly of their sense and worth compared with my own. Such I was, from eight to eight and twenty; and such I might still have been but for you, dearest, loveliest Elizabeth!" http://www.pemberley.com/janeinfo/ppv3n58.html Georgiana wants Elizabeth to be a part of her family. Colonel Fitzwilliam likes her. Mr. Darcy doesn't like his aunt and is indifferent to his cousin. That's pretty much all the family he has. Mr. Darcy started as a snob b/c he thought someone of Elizabeth's place in society was beneath him, then he fell in love, and her lack of social standing and family scandal, i.e., Lydia didn't matter any more. |
