I totally agree. I also ask for my nanny's yearly pap results because I don't want anyone with creepy crawlies using my toilet or changing my kids diapers. At first I thought she might freak out but then I realized if she is getting her yearly paps like she is supposed to then what's the big deal? |
Good lord do you give her yours too? Why not just a yearly physical??????? You could hove something too. |
Okay, wackadoodles, can you just scatter now so we can get back to the original question? Geez.
OP, I see nothing unreasonable with discussing it with this person. There are articles daily about Swine Flu and the vaccine, and it is likely going to be a very big vaccination effort. I see no harm in discussing it with your caregiver to see what her thoughts are. The real question is: if she doesn't want to get the vaccine, then what do you do? Not hire her? This will lead to a decision that you may or may not want to make based on a potential risk. My doctor told us that he is seeing 3 cases a day of swine flu, that swine flu is making up about 5% of cases in local emergency rooms. It is already here. It will get worse in the fall, but it is here. He also said that everyone will either get the vaccine or get swine flu at some point, that it will be around in some version for the next 2 or 3 years. He said not to change any behavior and "live your life," but wash hands and avoid sick individuals. FWIW. |
One sick puppy.... |
a different point of view. I am a health care professional who works with severely immune-suppressed patients. My employer cannot mandate that i get the flu shot (it's yet to be determined what they will ask of the swine flu vaccine). I get it anyway, because I want to protect my patients, myself and my children. Plus, having gotten the flu once before, I don't want to repeat that experience. However, I have several colleagues who opt not to get the flu shot. that is well within their right - they just have to sign a waiver. The flu shot -whether it's swine or the annual one - does not protect against all strains of the flu.
So, while you may make this request, just know what your back up plan is if the person you want to hire doesn't want to do what you want him/her to do. This reminds me of a DCUM debate a year or so ago about whether or not an employer could require their nanny take an HIV test. |
