This is some passive-aggressive power thing. It doesn't seem to be about money from the way I'm reading it. She's acting irrationally for some reason ... but leave it to your husband to figure out. You shouldn't get involved with this level of crazy.

Why did your husband tell you this? Was it "mom's crazy" or "we have to send mom money"? He should have told you "mom wants to be paid for watching Jr. and I laughed at her and said no" -- that is normal.

Of course this shit ain't normal. It's whack and you should never leave your kid(s) with her again. Ever. Period. What is SHOCKING to me is that you have somehow managed to unite this godforsaken board against a MIL. That is truly unbelievable. Because there are a lot of pathetic, sad, desperate women on this board who want everyone to be as pathetic and sorry as they are thenselves. Just really sad.

Basically this. She's either a real bitch or a total nutcase and I'm not sure which one is worse. In any case, not the type of person you want spending time with your kids.

Definitely pay her though. Otherwise she'll have an excuse to keep harassing you and I guess you'll never hear the end of it. This way you can make a clean cut.

I agree that it isn't "typical" behavior but I wonder if it indicates that your MIL is having financial problems? I saw that question raised in one of the first posts but then I missed a response affirming no money problems. I think you need to find out more. Certainly if she needs the money then I would give it to her. Sheesh!
