I don't think the kids are weird. They are the same top of their class go to Flagship U students that go to UVA. Although, probably less impressive, because UNC is not fishing from a NOVA type talent pool. And half of all instate students who apply are admitted (vs 15% OOS).

But, the NC legislature is pushing its super conservative social agenda on the school. And that is not doing UNC any favors.

Sorry, not as good as UVA. Good try, though.

UNC and UVA are virtually indistinguishable.

Actually no - in terms of consulting and finance recruiting uva is in a much higher tier

And I say this as someone who would never attend uva nor would I let my kids go there

Why not?

Cal, ucla, u.washington, cu-boulder would make more logical sense then if that's the criteria one is using to make a pick

Unc is next door - nothing unique about it for a kid in the DMV.

I really don't get the attractiveness of unc

Pp here - it's not our scene. A school like Swarthmore or Pomona is more of our comfort zone

Why not?

I will say, as someone with ties to UVA, I found Chapel Hill and the UNC campus to be pleasantly beautiful. Reminded me of C'ville, but different. And the student body at any of those state schools would be unique in its own way. Kids from the Appalachian region of NC are not the same as kids from the DC suburbs.

They don't get why it's weird for a college to graduate illiterates for decades.

Doesn't say much for the education they are giving and getting.

I'm still stunned that there are decades worth of illiterates running around with UNC degrees and the school and alumni don't think it's an issue. Talk about big group of dummies. Additionally, the famous alumni list is not academically impressive on the least.

Love it, love it, love it. Wish we had it and they could take UVA instead.

She said she was an "athlete" - so in and out a couple of times.

VERY informed opinion - ha!

From a rival school, no less.
