Social media humblebragging

But really, I was just sharing something really cool that'll never happen again. Intent, folks.

No, you were just regular bragging.

Why does everyone on DCUM think they know what ever poster is thinking?

I don't do any social media so I'm limited to seeing only what some people allow like my DIL. She's the queen of photo bragging. But unlike her family and friends, I know the truth behind her pictures.

I figure she and many like her came from humble beginnings and wants the world to know, HEY, I MADE IT ! LOOK AT ME !

I'm not about to burst that bubble but I find the behavior disturbing. Like opening the front door letting anyone peek in. It's dangerous as hell.

Since I don't do SM, I'd like to take this opportunity to brag myself. After a 30 year, 20 year, then 15 year mortgage, we paid off our home in 7 years two days ago.

I have no photos to share, just the deed. Now that is something to brag about.

Anyone else noticed it?

Mom: Look at Larla's handwriting! (which just happens to be on Ritz Carlton stationery)

Mom: Look how big Larlito is getting! (in front of the new Mercedes in the driveway)

Mom: Look how good tonight's Paleo pasta sauce looks! (on top of the LaCornue range)

Yes, I know I'm probably jealous. Yes, I know nothing on social media is really real. The stuff I'm seeing just feels so tacky.

Congrats, but none of this has anything to do with humble bragging.

Yeah, it's reinforced multiple times a day here. Yet they can't back away from it.

Social media posts are a curated view of life. If the artifice bothers you (it bothers me), then unplug. I did. I don't regret it for a second.

The people who know me, know what's going on with me. Plus, I don't have FOMO syndrome, as if I even had time for that. (see what I did there?) Seriously though, hop off for a while and see how it feels. You can always hop back on...

OP I too get annoyed by the same sort of posts. I wouldnt call it humble bragging, but it is still bragging. They don't want to say "Look at my new benz" bc that would be gauche. So they post a pic of the child by the car because in their mind they are being less tacky while still doing what they intended to do. Bragging about the dang car. It is lame and drives me nuts.

JFC. People are so sensitive and envious about everything these days. No one can say anything without someone else thinking they are bragging.

Delete facebook. Problem solved.

DITTO! Whey do people continue to use social media and complain about it. Just get off it OP. You're not 13

I would say that is a classic, perhaps even egregious, humblebrag.

This was an actual post and I watched as the "likes" grew and the compliments flowed in. "You do look like her! #hotmama"
This is a 40 year old woman, not a teen. Why do people encourage this behavior.

What are you supposed to do when you have nice stuff? Photoshop it out of your pictures?
