Then your family is putting way to much thought into how others dress. |
Congrats! I hope you have a great experience there. I have a couple of Johnnies as friends and they loved it. |
I think preppyness has become sort of an aspirational thing moreso than a lifestyle , people adhere to it because of its presumed image and cache as opposed to a genuine connection . This has led to the proliferation of generations of poseurs who have co-opted the shit out of it just to use as a marker of a certain socio economic status that feeds into a barely disguised superiority complex .
I mean outside of New England and particularly the CT,MA,RI corridor , who can genuinely say they have a connection to it? Hell even in New England you'd be hard pressed to find a whole lot of people walking around in Vineyard vines, TuckerNuck, or Lilly Pulitzer . These brands have made their names by dressing people who are desperate to look and feel like people they never were . It's amusing to say the least to see people push their snowflakes through overpriced preppy high schools and colleges , only to have them end up in cubicles like everybody else . Provided they can actually hold down jobs |
Diversity has always been a big thing for academia , especially on the east coast . Try not to keep your head buried in obscurity for long |
