Thoughts on non compete clauses? Anyone have one?

I work in a very small, specialized industry and my non compete is very specific. I signed that I couldn't work for X, Y, and Z companies, my current company's main competitors, for 2 years after leaving or being let go.

I also had to sign a contract saying that while at industry events, I wouldn't interact ina private setting with any employees from those main companies.
