NP here. Those are the sites I check (also Nordstrom Rack), but no, they don't have the same selection as the SR website. If your DD is picking a specific pair, you may have to buy them from SR itself. |
| Side question - anyone notice if See Kai Run tends to wear out faster? I have a pair of fabric sneakers for my one year old, and while the soles are in great shape, the tops look SO worn after a month. Maybe it's inevitable because he's still climbing stairs on hands and knees and tripping occasionally, so is scraping the tops of them a lot? |
YES!!! I was so pissed because I bought these super cute $$$$ SKR shoes and the top layer totally flaked off after a couple wears. They look so beat up! Never again! |

OP here, this is really helpful info thanks everyone. I'm planning to go get DS sized this weekend. I'm okay with spending the money on nicer shoes but just wanted to be sure it's worth it before I bit the bullet.
One other thing - will a shoe with a stiffer bottom (Stride Rite over a Robeez) encourage DS to stand flat on his feet more? Right now he's liking his toes better than standing flat. I'm not overly concerned about it right now, but we're doing what we can to encourage him to keep his heels down. |
Ok, thank you!! I thought I was crazy! They are SO cute, but not if they wear out after a few weeks! |
| buying SR on line misses the point. At a good store they will actually give advice on fit. Every size 7 is not the same. I completely did the thrift stores for kids clothes. But we were shoe train all the way for everyday shoes. Sure Target is fine for a dressup pair but I wanted to know the others fit well. |
Agreed. I'd buy soft sole shoes for a new walker. |
I think this depends on how your kid's feet grow. I get mine measured (and buy in store) twice a year usually, then buy online in between. Her feet grow steadily and don't jump sizes though. |
| Feeling my kids toes myself is definitely not the same as going to Shoe Train and being told that New Balance is a better fit for kid #1 right now because his heel is narrow. Can't get that with a cutout foot measure. |
| Stride Rite is closing all of their stores. So this will be a moot point soon. You can probably get sales though! |
| Yes. Just do it. |
Closing stores does not equal closing business. Stride Rite shoes will still be available online and in other retailers. |
Yes, I love these too! They are half the price and hold up well. Surprise is the brand name. |
| I also like the Carters "Every Step" shoes for early walkers. They have lasted for both of my girls. |
True! I learned that mine fits better in a wider toe box when I got him measured at a shoe store. |
