Do you take everything literally? If you hear someone say, "I don't get how you can like ...the Twilight series/monster trucks/bungee jumping/Birkenstocks/sushi...etc., do you actually think that the person has no idea as to why someone has different taste in things? It's just an expression of surprise, not an indication of cluelessness. |
What ages were your kids on this trip? (Thinking of going) |
|
We went to WDW in the fall when kids were 3 and 5. It wasn't too too crazy in terms of crowds and weather was nice. It was the perfect age to take them because everything was so magical. But I agree a PP that I can't imagine doing it more than once or twice.
|
Not pp, but I took my kids at 5 and 12 and it was one of our best trips! |
Dis you plan your own Costa Rica vacation or did you use a travel group? I just want a package, don't have time to plan. Thanks for any info. |

I loved Old San Juan, PR with my toddler. We liked walking the narrow streets, flying kites at El Morro, the food, cafes, and the fact that locals love kids.
We also like the Eastern Shore because it's close yet feels like a vacation. The park in Oxford, MD by the water is beautiful. My kid likes traveling, mainly because she gets undivided attention the whole time. |
This is similar to our worst, which was San Francisco with kids ages 1 and 3. They're early risers, and the first night they woke up at 3 am. We couldn't get them back to sleep because we were in a hotel and couldn't let them cry. We didn't have breakfast food and the three year old was starving, but nothing was open near the hotel, so he ate a bunch of crap from the vending machine. And while we could let the three year old watch the ipad to stay entertained, the one year old had to be closely watched and entertained in a hotel room that wasn't baby proofed and of course we only had a few toys. In the evenings, they were cranky by 3 pm, dinner was by 4 and we were stuck in a dark hotel room by 6. By the time they adjusted to the time change and slept until 6 am, the trip was over. There was also the time our air conditioning broke in our car at the start of a 5 hour road trip in August. In a black car. Stuck in traffic in the Bronx. Then DS barfed in his car seat, which I got to clean out in a sweltering burger king parking lot. We tried to take refuge at a movie theater, but as soon as we sat down, the fire alarm went off, so the theater was evacuated to the hot parking lot. After the second alarm, we bailed and just made the Damn drive. |

PP, your Bronx trip barfing experience reminds me of my son (age 5) barfing all over me on a shuttle bus at WDW. He nailed me. Oh, gee. That was 8 years ago and it's still referenced every so often in our house....
It was August, it was hot as heck, it was crowded, and it was about 7:30 AM. Another woman (I'm sure a mom) was across the aisle on the bus and gave handed over a tiny pack of wipes. It was a long, long day.... |
This place really is awful. DH and I went before kids and it was still awful. We made the best of it but it's not a place I would ever want to return to, even if it were free. Atlantis, yes. That place, no way. Our best trips with the kids (now 4 and 6) have been to cities with kid-friendly museums, zoos, etc. Philly was great. Pittsburgh was another fun trip. Going to Chicago this summer. I enjoyed Disneyland and the kids would probably say that was their favorite. |
| Worst: Jellystone in Luray. Never again. I need to shower every time I think about how I swam in that pool. |
+ 1 our kids were 5 and 8 when we went the first time and absolutely loved it, |
|
Best beaches Turks
Worst obx that place is boring and sucks |
I'm the poster who asked. Thanks for the responses. We are looking to go this year when our youngest is five too so I'm relieved to hear you both enjoyed Hawaii then. |

Worst - Trip to NYC in the summer. Too hot and we just didn't plan very well. Thought my DD would walk everywhere (she was 3) but she complained the whole time how tired she was. We've learned and now always take a stroller on a trip in case.
Best - Aulani. Just enough Disney for us. The jet lag was rough the first day or two but we all adjusted. Stayed there a week. Really enjoyed it. Ended up renting a car for a few days and got to explore the island. |
OMG, I was rolling on the ground reading about your car trip. Sorry it happened but thanks for sharing! |
