FCPS is lying and saying they are needed to avoid "cuts". It's not the money as much as the dishonesty.

I don't get your logic. FCPS has to get their money from the BOS so they have to submit a proposed budget. They don't get to vote on their own budget so likely this is why they ask for more than what they typically end up with. Both the BOS and FCPS submit proposed budgets. In the County proposed budget there are proposed increases already and then they also list some wants that aren't funded, but there are increases and additional services listed in the original proposed budget with additional funding attached to them. Lately people have not been arguing against these increases. But when something is taken away from the proposed budget, it is still considered a cut to the proposed budget just like it is for FCPS. What would you like to call a cut to a proposed budget instead? It has to work for the County and FCPS.

NP here. You could call that a cut in a proposed or requested budget, but if the budget is actually going up again it's disingenuous to claim it's a budget cut.

Too many words and either way, it's still a cut to a BUDGET so not necessarily disingenuous. FCPS/Fairfax is not the only place that deals with cuts to proposed budgets. I'm sure there's a technical term for this.

The white house calls program cuts cuts and program increases increases even though the 2018 budget is larger than the 2017 budget. The article even says the budget is decreasing when in fact it's increasing.

+1. Yes. There are going to be lots of laid-off federal employees in NoVa soon, so don't come asking them to pay higher real estate taxes if you aren't even prepared to acknowledge that you want to increase the FCPS budget.
