I did this groupon once. There are other costs involved but the total was much less than other places.

Value Vet and Vetwrx are the McDonald's of veterinary medicine. You get what you pay for.
Your pharmacy has a minimal dispensing fee. So does your vet if he/she is smart. And yes before I get flamed, I am a veterinarian. I spent many years in school to know how to treat your pets. And I should be paid appropriately for it. That being said, you should be given an accurate estimate ahead of time with all anticipated costs listed. I often get the cases that Value Vet cannot handle. A blocked cat sent home with hebiribary catheter still on. A mass that needs to be removed that they cannot handle. So yes touvmay same money there for the easy stuff but I prefer the clients who want to build a relationship between the pet, the owner and the veterinarian. Clients like that are wonderful. Rimadyl is given via injection during the procedure to stop the formation of the chemicals that cause pain. It is easier to prevent pain than to treat it. You cannot give them anything by mouth the day of the procedure. Extractions are tricky. There is no way to tell prior to the X-rays which feel need to be extracted. We removed 19 teeth from a dog the other day. Yes, we knew that one was going to be bad going in because you could smell the teeth before you could see them and when you saw them they were disgusting (think BLACK!). Perhaps if we as a population took better care of our pets teeth with brushing and dental treats, we as veterinarians would need to perform fewer extractions at every dental cleaning. I do applaud the OP for doing regular exams of her dog's teeth. That is rare. Kudos. Sometimes unfortunately teeth get cracked/diseases and need to be removed even in the healthiest of mouths. So shop around if you want but please know that most veterinarians are doing what is best for your pet. The margin is so slim on what we do.....trust me we are not in it for the money. |
